Yes I think he was. He could have been a top player. He had the pace, physique and everything but he fizzled out. Not as bad as Rodwell, but he should have had 50+ England caps imo.

He is one of those players that on the ball he is unbelievably good, but out of possession he hasnt got the game awareness. I have said before that to me he needs to play as either a wing back, or a centre mid, where others can cover. People were in uproar when Southgate was looking unlikely to pick him, but I dont think he can be trusted, at least not for England when our weakness is centre halves.
