Peter Swann has stepped down as Chairman of Scunthorpe United. The Club say Peter will be making a statement over the weekend. Lee Turnbull returns to the Club as Chief Operating Officer.
His name's still above the door - one of his company's still owns the stadium; the **** should have stuck to lounge singing.
If there is one single reason for Scunny's demise, which there are a few, the fact that Peter Swann IMO has been too quick to sack managers. Graham Alexander was doing a great job, he had a few poor results, which can happen to any team, and he was quickly sacked. From that point, the downward spiral started.
Personally, I am only a Hull City supporter and always have been, but I don't like to see local teams struggle, to have both GY, unless they can manage to get back up this season and Scunny in the National league, is not good for the area as a whole.
Funny that Peter Swann is a **** and Peter Swan is also a ****. As for Scunthorpe, I've only ever met one Iron fan and that was on the coach back from Wembley, he was a young lad who went on his own. He was just there for the day out enjoyed the game and was pleased we won. Word got round he was a Scunthorpe fan and a little bit of abuse started straight away. Myself and our group nipped that in the bud very quickly and the young lad had a great day.
That national League is full of former EFL sides. Off the top of my bonce: Stockport, Chesterfield, Grimsby, Yeovil, Wrexham, Sarfend, Notts Cou, Dagengham...etc..etc Must be one hell of a hard league to get out of. TBH I reckon its a better standard than L2. Scunny could slide into National League north and join the likes of York City, and I guess Darlo.
See that’s where you and I must disagree. **** them both. When I started supporting City I remember GY fans giving it large about their club being much bigger and better. At the time, they were higher up, while us and Scunthorpe were down at the bottom. They’re local rivals and the only team I’m happier to see in non league is Boston United, they can **** a pineapple as well.
Sorry, I don't get this John. How is league football in North Lincolnshire good for/ or benefit our area (East Yorks)?
I know it's not evidence but I don't recall any team promoted from the Conference who have slid straight back (happy to be corrected) - I'm sure a couple, Lincoln being one of them, have gone straight through to L1 from the Conference; I doubt the Conference is better top to bottom but their top teams always fare well when promoted.
But, DB said the standard was better. That means the level of the 24 team division, not just the promoted clubs. Some are still semi-pro whereas L2 is all professional. They are clearly some decent clubs there, some with rich backers, but it's a division below L2 for a reason. I just wondered what his process/evidence was for concluding that the Conference was a better standard.
At the time Grimsby were bigger than us, not that it was difficult as at one time over 80 clubs were. Further back when we were in the crap in 1982, many Scunny fans chucked cash in the blanket that was carried around the pitch when we played them. When the chips are down fans stick together, well some do.
I suppose the momentum of going up carries you through, whereas a team bumbling at the bottom of the league will be circling the drain for a few years prior to going down. York didn’t seem to last very long last time they came up and Barrow have hardly set the league alight.
