I've seen the reporting of the report now

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...-rain-fans-indulging-post-covid-carnival.html

A few interesting quotes from Prof Pearson analysing it...'he warned that a measured response is required, since he believes a return to heavy-handed policing at matches will only make matters worse.'...'Now is not the time to panic,' added the University of Manchester academic. 'We are not going back to the 1980s. I would expect things to settle down because I would expect football fan behaviour to settle down and the football fan policing operations to get back up and running in terms of those relationships that have been damaged by the lockdown.'

He seems to disagree with you that its a return to the 80's (let alone the 70's that you suggested)

I sincerely hope that's the case. If it goes unchecked though it's only going to increase IMHO.

Currently, the Home Secretary and Opposition are competing for who has the most moronic and outdated drug policy with their ‘name and shame’ bollocks. Since they’re into throwbacks, I wonder if alcohol prohibition is back on the cards.

We've never had alcohol prohibition. The USA showed that didn't work. A daft senior copper once called for a banning of alcohol sales and consumption on the day of a friendly against Leeds. That was soon dismissed when it was realised there was an awards night at the Guildhall and even worse there was a Chamber Of Commerce do designed to show representatives from Europe what a vibrant place Hull was to visit for a break. Our normal opening hours are ridiculously short to them so heaven knows what they would have made of having to drink mineral water and orange juice all day and walking past closed pubs and bars.<laugh>

Exactly. Drug prohibition doesn’t work either.

Personally I think the timing of this programme is unfortunate but as the press in what ever form seeks the divisive and the sensationalist for its reporting I might have expected it . Locally as City have become a slightly more topical subject lately what great timing to introduce some related controversy!
Had we been languishing it probably would carry less weight or interest other than ‘ soccer hooligans at it again’
The recent arrest of a lad selling coke at City like drinks spiking has promoted more of it ‘ it gives people ideas’ some follow like sheep or to be cool.
With the massive growth of county lines and supply then it’s now easier and probably affordable for a hit for the afternoon. I walked in the toilets last Saturday and 4 young lads quickly cleared out - . I live in a decent part of the city but often see groups of black clad lads on bikes meeting up at set points and times- swapping stickers ?
The Blades forum referred to lots of young lads raring about post game so the new trend is popular there. Think lockdown has given youth a ‘ need’ to lift themselves - mental health issues of course. And yes I know first hand what real ones are.
Think Burnsy and whoever have picked a topic at a very bad time when we are trying to resurrect the clubs fortunes - but the British press are notorious for this to pander to the ignorant, superior , tabloid reading or tutting public - take your pic.

It was the club, who announced this morning that they would be having sniffer dogs at games from now on, to try and deal with the increase in drug taking at games. So you should probably blame them for the timing (or maybe they were just giving the yoof a heads up, so they could avoid getting nicked).

They'll just sniff it before they get to the game then haha!

Did the dogs put in for a gram? If not, they can buy their own and sniff that.

Club announcements circulate to the fans not to the public at large , easy and untimely as I say to grab this . I fully support the dog checks etc drugs are a scourge wherever they are used .

Won't happen. Mind you, if they had only just discovered alcohol and tobacco they wouldn't be licensed for sale either.

Not here, probably. But Portugal has shown that decriminalisation of all drugs is more beneficial than criminalisation and ‘crackdowns’ on drugs.

Demographic changes may lead to liberalisation over time. We seem to have an ineffective and counter-productive strategy at the moment. Be surprised if Heroin is decriminalised in my lifetime though.

Sniffer dogs seem to be far more prevalent in England than up here.I've never seen a sniffer dog in Glasgow anywhere near a pub, never mind a Football Stadium.
They are a huge deterrent in my opinion so I'm not sure why they're not in use North of the border(she does like to be different though and sees alcohol as the big evil in Scotland)?

So the SMC are doing press on sniffer dogs today - humberside promote the story with the blessing of the SMC and some try to paint it as an un-provoked, unsolicited attack on the club.

Jesus christ. Thay can't ****ing win.

Which is why the chief of the SMC went on Humberside to publicly announce it?

Possibly to provide assurances to potential attendees that they're doing something about the issues that have been widely reported nationally?
