I was ill and missed that game, listened to it on the radio at home and that's my abiding memory of it - the screeching from the East stand coming through loud and clear.
I remember a great home game in the early 60s (possibly 1964) when Jimmy Hill was in charge for them and they were on the way to promotion from Division 3. City won 2-1 with one of the first goals I ever saw Chris Simpkin score - in front of Bunkers with a slightly deflected but hard and low shot as he came in from the left. Maybe City (ours!) can repeat this victory on Saturday - heart ruling head here I'm going against my better judgement to predict a 2-1 win with Emmanuel scoring the winner. I live in hope.
Ok, so tomorrow we won’t lose, I’ve just bet on Coventry, so that’s pretty much guaranteed a home win, or at least a draw. Still think Coventry will give us a stuffing though.
Never forgiven them for signing Chillo .. but alas can't see beyond another wonderful performance and a 5-0 defeat ! McCann out !!!!
There must be some jokes from this .... 3⃣0⃣0⃣ pumpkins will be available on the South Stand concourse for young supporters to take away tomorrow's game! You might even find a prize voucher inside! Make sure you share your carving designs with us! More info #hcafc | #theTigers
Some unlucky kids are going to have take home Grant McCann and Cliff Byrne instead of taking home a big orange vegetable.
Did City play Coventry in the FA Cup at their place 2 years running? I went to one of them but can’t remember if I went to that one or when we lost. Remember the stand we were in had a bar which was unheard of in those days!
Put a couple in the technical area/dug out, probably more effective than the present incumbents, couldn’t be any worse? We’re devils for punishment, will be there hoping & praying for a City result, although head says I could be disappointed.....not for the first time! It’s the hope that kills you!
Yes. The second year we were in the Hillman Avenger Stand behind the goal. You are right about the bar. It is still the biggest one I have ever seen. It ran the whole width of the stand. Pints were already on it at the start of half time. We found it quite unbelievable as we had nothing like that at City and we hadn't been to any other ground that sold alcohol.
Well we really are getting desperate for some points however you do wonder when and where they will come, it’s hard been optimistic but I’m hoping the thought of the Turkish national forward line coming will make sure who ever plays up front tomorrow scores. Get behind the lads I think they are going need us more than ever. 2.1 home win hopefully
I was at the Ricoh Arena when I think City were the first visiting team to take all 3 points. I think John Welsh scored both.
