I’ve said it many times already about Nuno but I’ll say it again, this guy can’t inspire players and his tactics are unspectacular. How did he trick his way into this job?
He played there today with Winks, a half-fit Bergwijn and out of position Gil and Lo Celso. I don't think that any of them came out of that with any credit and I'm not surprised, either. We had a winning formula and we moved away from it, taking up one that makes no sense, instead.
He’s played there plenty of times over the years though and dropped performances not much better than this. He’s done at this level, or certainly at this football club. We’ve gotta stop this insanity thing with some players, constantly persisting with mediocrity is not gonna suddenly deliver a change of results.
It’s on Paratici… Not a good first appointment from him to say the least. About 80% of us knew this as well when we found out Nuno was gonna get the job, how in the **** do paid professionals not see the obvious and inevitable?
He agreed to leave for nothing after a year, if we didn't qualify for the CL. When you're Daniel Levy, that's hard to beat. If there's such as a thing as a long term plan, it doesn't include this bloke.
Tbh, when you end up with your 5th choice as a manager the players not in the first team ain't gonna give a toss cos they figure he'll be gone as soon as things get bad. You could see that attitude with quite a few of ex first team players tonight imho.
The issue was we were putting tonight's team into the same system we played against Villa and Newcastle, which would make sense if they were like-for-like players, but a quick look at our outfield players underlines the issue Tanganga isn't similar to Emerson Sanchez is vaguely similar to Romero Rodon is similar to Dier Davies isn't similar to Reguilon Lo Celso isn't similar to Hojbjerg Winks is vaguely similar Skipp...but so are White and John (see Lo Celso/Hojbjerg) Bergwijn is similar to Lucas Dele isn't similar to Ndombele Bryan isn't similar to Son (although it feels harsh saying that) Scarlett isn't similar to Kane When the only like-for-like players in the starting xi are Rodon and Bergwijn, with two or three players maybe being able to say they're similar enough to make it work, that's where the issue is Obviously there's a couple of obvious fixes, namely Lo Celso instead of Dele and Doherty/Sessegnon instead of Tanganga/Davies (although Nuno made it plain that Tanganga is ahead of Doherty in the pecking order, which nobody can really disagree with) but ultimately it comes back to how we're a CM short and have been all season, because while pushing up Lo Celso or having additional width from Sessegnon would have put us on the front foot, but as the options for the other CM spot boils down to giving White or John some first team minutes that underlines how we're light on manpower in midfield, and this is something we should have looked at at the end of the transfer window rather than make a late play for another winger to add to the pile
For some it doesn’t even matter who’s in charge, they just won’t put the work in and/ or aren’t good enough. A good number of these players have played under three different full time managers at Spurs and we’re still persisting with them.
Any future that Nuno has at the club, is dependent upon him getting the club to qualify for the CL. If he fails, he's gone for nothing in the summer. So, his incentive to win a minor European trophy is..... please log in to view this image
I have mentioned this before on here, i hear often of players to fill the X role or Y role. X and Y have gone and the team/squad has changed so play to the new players strengths.
I really hope he ain’t around for that long because I can tell you now, under him, we won’t qualify for the CL and he’ll probably see us crash out of the ECL too.
