Sad news he was one my favourites in that Liverpool team of the late 60s. He was Liverpool's top goal scorer until Ian Rush went past him. RIP Roger <rose>

“THE PASSING OF A HERO. A SAD, SAD DAY.

Dennis Hutchings passed away today in a hospital room in Belfast. His death makes me extremely sad and extremely angry.
Sad because he was such a good, cheerful and brave man who lived a life that any man would be proud of and angry because the last six years of his life were spent being dragged back and forwards to court by representatives of the crown to face charges that there was no evidence to support.
Dennis could have pulled out of the case on the grounds of ill health but he was determined to have his day in court and hear the words 'Not Guilty'. Sadly in spite of his immense courage, that day never came.
People will claim that it was illness that took him but I say that it was this trial that took him. It was the actions of the state and injustice that took him.
At the age of 80 during a pandemic he had to fly packed in an aircraft, he had to live in a hotel and sit in a packed court to show that he wasn't going to be abused and bullied by terrorists. Sadly he couldn't hold out any longer.
Dennis has been the point man for Justice for Northern Ireland Veterans, he represents hundreds more who are still suffering the same abuse.
The governments of the United Kingdom that have sat in Parliament since the Good Friday Agreement in 1999 should all hang their heads in shame for allowing Sinn Fein/IRA to manipulate them to appease murderers. Dennis is another casualty of the troubles, a bloody civil war that never goes away.
'Hero' is a word I shy away from but he was a hero to me.
Goodbye my friend, have a ciggie at the gates before they let you in. We will all miss you.
