Sad. Great player in his day (though I'm too young to have seen him) and a very likeable tv pundit. I always find it strange how he's constantly associated with Spurs these days when he started his career at Chelsea and had a better goalscoring record there (in terms of goals to games). Unlucky to miss out in 1966 too.

Yes, very sad news. I used to love watching Saint and Greavsie in the 80's. His humour paved the way for future shows. Never saw him play but obviously a great striker. RIP.

Lots of us who did see him play, wished we hadn't.

When he was due to play at Roker Park there were always mixed feeling.
Yes, I wanted to see a great player at work.
NO, I didn't want to see us murdered.

And I'd like to add that he was not just a great striker, but he could play as well.
As good as any other inside forward of his time, plus the goals.

Add to this, we learned afterwards, with The Saint and Greavsie, he was an absolute gem with a great sense of humour.

Deserves all the tributes.

RIP

My dad was a huge fan of his from seeing him at the start of his career with Chelsea. Greavesie always had a soft spot for us as well and always spoke well of us when he did his punditry. I only remember him with Ian Saint John on ITV as a young 'un, but it was essential viewing. More insightful comments and humour than you get today.

I bought his book, The Heart Of The Game, a few years ago and its a brilliant read, his opinions on football then, which still hold up today.

RIP Greavesie

RIP Greavsie.

My eldest came and told me today. Told him to look up his goals record and he was blown away. I also explained how Saint and Greavsie was all we had in terms of weekend previews. The current sky mob could learn a thing or two from the brevity of that show. Will always remember their world cup shows.
