Hope we’ve shut the ****ing borders to stop in flux of them coming over here, by sounds of it it’s too late
Had my second Moderna shot yesterday Now waiting to see when Qatar is added to the green list and for UK flights to resume, although that maybe a while off unfortunately, Doha being a major transit hub. Also the mandatory 10 day hotel quarantine makes it difficult to get back as I would need nearly a month off work - not likely to be approved.
Hmmm Johnson and Witty presser later. What do we reckon asking? Walking the road map back a bit or just warning folk not to act like dick heads?
4 deaths from the Indian variant and cases doubled in a week. Hopefully the Vaccines will still protect us.
Should have shut the borders back from India at least two weeks before they did Gave everyone notice so people could rush back too.... a great plan Just call me Captainess Hindsight
I used to naively think it was as easy as that to close a border until I listened to how difficult it was. more importantly the Indian variant was already here. Just call me Captain Fact.
It was very difficult to close our borders a month ago, but some how we managed it Ellers, because it is now closed.... (a month too late). Yes the Indian variant was here before we closed the borders....keep up with the argument here Captain Fact. In other news:- I got a letter from the REACT clinical study, which is looking for the presence of immunity in the community, by testing antibody levels in people through out the UK (immunity following either Covid infection or through vaccination). I am pleased to say I have definitely got good levels of antibodies to Covid19 in my blood. (I have had two jabs of the Astra Zeneca vaccine though...so I was rather expecting the result.) But the vaccine does seem to work
Firstly well done on the antibodies. That is the sort of news we all like to hear. Secondly, without sounding pedantic... we have never closed our borders fully Beth. As I said you just can't say "oh let's shut the borders tomorrow". It doesn't work like that.
I’m a bit confused Beth. Yesterday we had the excellent news that real world evidence has shown that a delayed (c12 week) second jab is not only effective for AZ vaccine but also for Pfizer - for both the delay seems to strengthen the overall protection from infection, hospitalisation and death. When the decision was made to delay jabs for population rather than individual protection reasons it was a non evidence based punt - seems like the gamble paid off again, good stuff. At the time the pseudo science bollocks used to justify the decision severely pissed me off when all they had to say was ‘we re taking a punt on this, fingers crossed’. But today, with the Indian variant in play, there is talk of speeding up second vaccinations in worst affected areas. Any idea why? If the first jab gives the majority of the protection and a delayed booster entrenches this for longer, why speed it up? Surely better to blitz the entire eligible population with first jabs and impose a 2-3 week local lockdown while the vaccinations take effect? Australia closed its borders to arrivals from India, including its own citizens wanting to return, weeks ago.
Up here, Glasgow and Moray to remain at level 3 whilst rest of country drops to level 2....how long til we all go back to level 3? The Indian variant is rife in Glasgow (in the areas where our highest Asian population resides), and it's mostly mixing households that have spread it there, whilst Moray is community spread. Big weekend up here, as Rangers are getting their trophy so large crowds, although prohibited, are expected to gather. Double that with Eid and the cases could go through the roof! Some dire predictions that this is the start of the "Third Wave" with many deaths, but I'm not that convinced that it'll lead to that with so many vulnerable already vaccinated, unless this variant (or the next one, or the one after that) can bypass our immunity
Apparently when the government get something right they're lucky and when they get something wrong they're incompetent.
Here Pfizer time between shots is 21 days, moderna 28 UK seems to wait something like 12 weeks between shots Is there any science behind this?
I think the question Sb was asking was... When the government put the second jab back from 6 weeks to 12 weeks, contrary to the manufacturer instructions...they produced info to show that it was actually better. ( Nothing since then has said otherwise) Why now are they changing the instructions and bring the second jab forward a month. Without information to support the change. That was the question. As yet I cannot find an explanation, but will email a couple of people and maybe get back to you
