Roll the clock back several weeks, even a week back, not a soul would have said a negative word towards the NHS. In just 48hrs of the nurses moaning about a 1% pay rise and the tide has started to turn. Twitter is full of disgruntled people and that’s the ones who dare speak out.

The NHS and the unions are feeling “let’s make the most of this NHS love, the entire UK are on our side, now is the time to threaten strike action as we want more”.

They are going to seriously misjudge this, we’re still in lock down, many businesses are wondering if they’ll survive, unemployment is Sky high, the economy has been crippled and as 2p has pointed out, now just isn’t the right time to be asking for more.

The bottom line is the NHS want a bigger pay rise because they’ve done their job. What about firemen, police, care workers, shop staff on tills, delivery drivers, bus drivers, anyone who had to go to work as they couldn’t do it from home?

GP’s definitely don’t deserve anything extra, they’ve been available for a phone appointment if lucky. If a pay rise could be given to just those that were dealing with Covid patients then I’d be fine with that but that isn’t possible.

I’d have been all for a one off payment to those who were in A&E and the Covid wards but again, carers, pharmacy staff, ambulance drivers, even shop workers could all ask what about me
Perhaps the government wants to stir up some silt with a little "well it's a fair increase in the present situation" after all the clapping and banging, let's just make a little wave just to get a few people start to question the nurses "cheek" of considering striking and as for your doctor well he/she has had a Beano for me I don't know whether mine has gone to the great stethoscope in the sky or not,why can you not see them, I went for my flu jab and saw the nurse in the practice she said she had to sanitise when I'd left.
Now is it beyond reasonable to think can your g.p. not do the same, it's not a bleeding full cleanse down after all.
And how about our m.p's not claiming for every paper clip they use,you can easily find out who and what has been claimed and it's not good reading....let Matt Hancock start the ball rolling eh.

Lads after the joke banning of the Dr Seuss books what next, the Mr men books?
Mr Greedy, offensive to an obese person
Mr Skinny, offensive to an anorexic person
Mr Grumpy, offensive to a person with tourettes
Mr little, offensive to short arses, oops dwarves, no small people, tbh **** knows what they call themselves, got into trouble one day for calling one a dwarf.

Time and place for everything and now is not the time
Don’t know if you saw/heard Stamers response to Rishi Sunak’s budget but he was like a fish out of water with his response
Come the hour come the unions
Said it earlier but this is not doing the nursing profession any good whatsoever
You won't win 2p with him. There used to be another poster like that. Always had an answer, was always right, twisted things to suit their agenda. <ok>

The only thing worse than someone who can’t see is someone who doesn’t want to see
I would have thought you would have realised by now that those on here make their own minds up about things and are lead by no one

interesting perspective tuppence... so people make their own minds up without being influenced by the source of their information or peer groups?

Yours, an MSM brainwashed lefty snowflake <laugh>

By the way I don’t recollect anyone on here calling the nurses greedy twats so go wash your mouth out and come out of that tunnel your in and look at the wider world

If you’d have bothered to read my actual post properly, you’d have seen I referred to no one on here or their views.

So dismount your faux high horse and open your own eyes pal.

The government has offered 1% but budgeted for 2.1%.

The unions want 12.5% and will tell the press that they are readying for strike action. That process takes at least 3 months yet the nurses haven't even been balloted as yet which would take about 3 or 4 weeks to organise and get done.

Meanwhile the press have got on to it on the nurses side (to start with at least) so the pressure is on the government at the moment.

There isn't a deadlock as yet so communication channels are still open.

There will be another offer of 1.5% which will likely be rejected and then they will finally accept a 1.8% increase with guarantees over the next couple of years. Everyone will feel like they have won.

It's just how these things work. No need to all get worked up. Everything will be resolved by summer and the press will move on to something else for you to argue over.

To be fair, i don't blame the Nurses. On the front line risking there lives and whilst the government are dolling out contracts willy nilly to their mates, renovating a room in westminster for 2.5m or paying some guys 10 billion (i think) for track and trace to be modelled on an excel spreadsheet , i can certainly see why they are thinking lets have a bit of that.

Hancock needs investigating where his mates have been handed millions of pounds worth of contracts, then look at Whitty, Vallance and Johnsons dealings with big Pharma.
It may wake a few people up

Wonder where they’ll find another job on same money and pension
Genuine question

or is this just unions beating the drum

This is why they don't have much leverage at the moment. Alot of people claiming they will leave their jobs because of the 1%. Where are they going to go? Unemployment is the worst it has been for years.

Easy, they go and work on bank, as there’s 40,000 currently unfilled nursing vacancies.

My daughter can earn as much money doing 2 bank shifts (nights or weekends) than she does working full time.

28% of nursing staff now leave within 3 years of joining. An increase of 50% in the last 7 years. The entire service is running on goodwill and nurses feeling responsible for covering shortfalls by doing extra shifts and working barmy shift patterns as a result.

It's not just the money but the whole package. Starting salary with less than a years experience is £24k rising to over £30 and their pension is one of the best in the UK. Sorry but I have no sympathy with anyone who applies for a job knowing their terms and conditions then moan about it later.

Aren't most banks run by the NHS?

Why don't they do that anyway if the money is better?

Not getting at you, just curious?

There has also been record number of people wanting to become nurses at the moment. It's not a good time to threaten to walk out really. Ironically the best time was last March.

For the record I want the front line staff to get a decent payrise. They just have to tread carefully. They will end up with more than 1%.
