..strange timing, but everyone has had their wish and Lambert amd his useless clowns have finally left our club.... Who next? Cook?
Well, well, well - better late than never! It sounds like the rift between Lambert and Evans was bigger than the rumours suggest, judging by the rather blunt club statement. I assumed Evans wouldn’t fire him and wait until the takeover was finalised. I guess it makes sense to get the new manager in now, presuming somebody has been lined up? If it’s Paul Cook, as the reports have suggested, let’s get him in quick! Ultimately, Lambert will be regarded as a failure here and will be considered by many to be one of our worst managers in history - fairly or unfairly. He did help bridge the divide between supporters and the club initially. He will possibly be seen as somebody who was a victim of an over-rated, complacent, and injury-prone squad. Not to mention working under an owner who should bear main responsibility for the decade long decline, as well as a complete lack of passion or footballing knowledge and structure. Lambert never got this team looking consistently good, he failed to establish a positive style of football, and he struggled to raise standards at the club. His erratic management of the team in League One - whether that’s a ponderous approach to changing teams after poor form, an inability to build a playing philosophy, and an overly confrontational approach to the media (including banning journalists from the ground) - has been nothing short of a disappointment. He took a talented and deep squad for this level - with one of the highest wage bills in the division - to a mid-table finish last season and we've generally been in underwhelming mid-table form this season. If we disregard the latest two games - which will be considered an anomaly, as a pending takeover arguably focused player minds - Lambert had an inability to beat in-form, decent League One teams and had been frequently out-thought by fellow managers. His game management also leaves much to be desired. His prickly press conferences mostly followed the pattern of bragging about “playing for big clubs” and being passive aggressive to journalists. Honestly, I would be very surprised if he got a job in the top two English divisions again. I was underwhelmed when he was appointed and I’m happy to see him leave. I just hope the replacement is a good appointment and the structure at the club changes - starting with a new owner.
I think his outburst against Evans regarding under investment and the Club needing help was the last straw, I feel a certain amount of respect for someone finally standing up to our useless, destructive owner and going public, good luck PL.
Seemed inevitable, but had thought that this would have bought him some time to at least the rumoured takeover was complete. Assume it'll be a caretaker until (if) the takeover goes through. Onto the next chapter...
Also worth noting, this is a mutual consent decision. Am I correct in believing Lambert is therefore not getting any compensation money? If so, then I think it’s worth raising that he’s gone despite the fact he could’ve made more of an issue or held out for a pay off. Fair play.
It doesn’t mean that he’s not entitled to a pay off necessarily. Evans might have just thought it sounds better than firing him.
Well good on him for exposing what a rancorous, poisonous, shambles of a Club Evans has reduced us to, who would've believed that this incompetent, spiteful, clown, could drag ITFC down so far.
I wouldn't have minded if we (Sunderland) went for Daniel Stendel before we appointed Lee Johnson. He done a great job with Barnsley and they were very good to watch in this league under his management. Cook will also be a safe enough bet for you, he knows his way around this league.
As Lambert has pretty much chucked Evans publicly under the bus in the past couple of weeks perhaps he negotiated the mutual consent part rather than sacking him (meaning he can pay him less money). You can't say what you've said about your boss publicly and not expect consequences. Fair play to Lambert for speaking some home truths (although I think he does have a history of falling out with owners). I've no feelings either way for Lambert or Hurst to be honest, neither made great decisions but I think both (like pretty much all managers ME has appointed) have had their hands tied somewhat. This does feel like strange timing and perhaps one which ME hadn't intended to make (his other sackings appear to have been calculated for a while before hand), because he let Lambert have the January transfer window and results have just improved. It just must have been what Lambert has said to him face to face and/or in the media. I'm keen on Paul Cook but also keen that we let the dust settle a little and maybe see who actually would show an interest in it. I'm quite non plused about it all to be honest as things will only change dramatically in the long term if ME leaves and in the short term if we can keep our squad relatively fit
Paul Lambert knew full well what the deal was when he took over and will have earned into the millions. He has tried to put all the blame on Evans and we don’t need telling what the issues are with the club, but Lambert has been an unmitigated disaster himself. If it really has taken him two and a half years to understand how the club is run and raise his concerns with the owner then he’s an even bigger waste of space than we’ve already given him credit for.
Evans played a blinder! Giving Lambert that huge contract extension, knowing he was never going to sack him, was pure genius. Lambert, for all his faults as a manager, I'm sure is a man of integrity and generally a decent bloke but couldn't take any more crap and had no choice other than to walk away ergo costing Evans absolutely nothing! Slippery as an eel that Evans ( as if you didn't know!) I wish Paul all the best for the future - not everything that's rotten at our beloved Club can be laid at his door. And now the next chapter begins.........
If you look at the last few days weeks of our last 5 managers they've all looked like they are under serious pressure venting their frustration on someone whether that be the fans, players, the media or ME himself (the only manager who didn't change was Keane and that was because he was in attack mode all the time anyway). It's not an easy job to front up a club be the only person held accountable in a club with no background structure. I was never a particularly a fan of a director of football but if you have a reclusive owner/chairman and a token puppet (Lee ONeill and whoever went before him in various roles) you need someone else to take the heat off the manager. However poorly managed Ipswich were prior to ME the board always fronted any problems taking unnecessary flak away from the manager.
All Evans managerial appointments turned out to be hopeless with a false dawn for a season under MM, lets hope the next one doesn't go the same way.
