I loiter around on these forums alot but yes... Just reading the football news and got me wondering... As we are constantly berated as the fans with to high expectations (oh how I delight in 17th place ) - which fans genuinely do have to high expectations... For me this has to be Tottenham. Looking at their squad its no way near top 4 quality yet this seems to be their thinking....As a manager I would dread to go to Tottenham, their squad is decent but no way near that of Chelsea, Utd, City, Leicester.
I’ve never once thought NUFC fans expect anything other than just a bit of ambition. This notion that we demand Champions league football is complete and utter nonsense. Where it comes from is beyond me. We’ve been relegated twice and been involved in countless relegation scraps under Ashley. And yet we are portrayed to be hungry for Champions league football. Bizarre. Yes I agree though, Spurs are not a top 4 side. They are a top 7 side. You can look at Man City, Chelsea, Manu and Liverpool who are the top 4 and realistically with the funds they have anything but top 4 is failure. Then there’s the rest. The ones that I think are always over achieving and it’s excellent is Leicester. A prime example of a very VERY well ran club.
Hi, loitering can get you arrested except in Consett. Totally agree that a media myth exists about the Toon Army’s expectations. I don’t honestly think any other fans expect as opposed to hope for more than their lot even the Spuds.
Tottenham’s squad is better than Leicester’s. Leicester are just ran fantastically, fair play to them. Spurs have always just lingered in my opinion, beautiful new stadium and some good player eg Kane, Son. They sort of remind me of us for a few years where we were 3rd/4th for a few seasons. Good but not good enough. If I was a Spurs fan I’d just be happy with top 6. But no where near title challengers. Mile off City.
I'd suggest that high expectations in the PL is winning the PL. There are only 6 clubs to have any real expectations of winning the league for the past 30 years (due to financial and political clout). Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal expect to compete to win this division every year. In my opinion, the media and fans of these clubs always have the very highest expectations - especially the fake United.
I'm just grateful we've got Steve Bruce and are sat comfortably in 17th place. Some of our fans are completely unrealistic, we're living the dream
I think spurs fans are alright. I've always somehow thought we are quite similar clubs. Both like entertaining football, never quite up to winning anything. They have kicked on a bit in the last few years of course while we have got worse but are still being frustrated. The bogs are much better at their place also of course!
