No fcukin' way!!!! Watch the replay. Costa was supposed to be marking the corner-taker. He didn't & the corner-taker wandered into the box & scored with Costa completely unaware that he was there. It was his man & he had no idea where he was.
Villa started time-wasting at 35 minutes. That says it all. They started brightly but looked a bit leggy towards the half hour mark. I thought we grew in to the game as it went on. Watkins looks dangerous on the counter though. Bamford needs to pull his finger out and start getting on the ball. Did Roberts really play up front because his shooting is atrocious. Costa switched off a bit for the goal but he was trying to stay up with the defensive line. He doesn't have eyes in the back of his head. You can point the finger at him but it's marginal as that is a tough position to be in. I'm not sure what else he can do tbh. Maybe react a bit quicker but positionally he looks fine, he is on the defensive line too. If he is further back then El Ghazy can nip in front, if he is further forward he leaves too much space. Ironically it is the ball that is spot on to beat him there and ironically Watkins didn't mean it. He slipped as he shot.
He knew he was there. He looked at him but he also has to look at the line to make sure he isn't too deep and playing everyone onside. The ball beat him. Where would you like him to stand? Costa could have been a bit more switched on and react quicker to the pass and Cooper could have stepped up. It's micro mistakes but at this level it matters.
Agree with you re. Roberts. Hopefully this is his last attempt at a game. As for Costa. Nope. He had no idea where his man was. No idea at all. It was his man too. He may not have eyes in the back of his head, but he has a neck that should allow him to look round to see where his man is. He didn't. Football 101. Know where your man is. Shocking, nonchalant play. Let himself, the club, & the fans down.
wanted...someone who can put in a low hard cross, instead of these floated balls as if we have still got a mick jones, joe jordan, lee chapman type ardcentre forward
