The club has just reported Holden's sacking. Downing has not gone as earlier reported, him an Simpson will take charge of training.
I thought Dean was going to resign, heard they stayed in the changing room for an hour after the game,,,
Wanted Deano to do well after taking over from LJ's achievements and progressing us to the next level........We did get early points on the board which IMO were a bit of a Red Herring to the reality of most of our performances. From the off and for the limited games I watched, I still thought as a team we were poor although bit my tongue as we were clocking up points......I Never understood Deano's style, the majority of his formations or the use of his substitutions and IMO very rarely got his tactics right..and as RP would say "I could see it ending in tears" if he didn't change ways......struggled to try different things, reminded me of SC a bit when struggling to win games in the championship. I hope the board have finally learnt some lessons appointing, "the easy & cheap option" ...........but I remember saying exactly the same thing when GJ was fired and Millen brought in.... We will now see how serious for success SL really is.
Gutted for him personally but not surprised. Not sure it will help us though. Who would WANT the job? Anyone one here? Honestly?
It's very sad to hear of Dean's sacking but in reality it had to come sooner rather than later , and I wish him well. Getting down to brass tacks I wonder if any forethought went in to the discussions about a new manager prior to the dismissal? Perhaps we could reunite Howe and Tindall to give us an experienced duo to change the way football is run at Bristol City and offer us a way forward based on their previous successes at a higher level even with a small stadium (rather like Brentford) and their ability to work with lesser known players and still play attractive football. Come on Steve please give us a nice surprise please.
Dean Holden has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect. Following a sixth successive defeat, the Bristol City Board have decided that a change of Head Coach is necessary. Assistant Head Coaches Paul Simpson and Keith Downing will take charge of training until further notice. The club would like to thank Dean for his service to the club over the years and we wish him well for the future. There will be no further comment at this stage. It had to be next couple of games .. I think circumstances will make it difficult for the next "HC" we are doing poorly and with still a large number of players out likely we may stick with what we have for next 6 games? …. we invested in Simpson and Downing for a reason … don't know what their contracts are but ex "young England" …. maybe the pair will go more 4 away from 3 - 5 - 2 it has been death of 2 coach's now if not 3 ……!
I did say the other day, Bournemouth went up spending an fortune, can’t quite remember the full amount but it was huge. That was his second stint at Bournemouth. Take a look at his time at Burnley and see what he is like. Not saying I don’t want him, but don’t be clouded by he got the prem theory, so he must be great. Hollowhead also done it and kept a club up all on limited finances but you won’t want him here.
Sorry for Dean but for once the club appears to have made a good decision. Of course it remains to be seen who comes in and replaces him and how long that might take given the utter drawn out fiasco of Holdens appointment. So meanwhile Jon Lansdown is in the Carribean, apparently on business, and during lockdown, so I wonder if he was consulted ? In my humble opinion the 2 coaches need to go as well in a clean sweep. Let's not have another contrived and failed 'recruit from within' scenario.
I'm guessing, but I would imagine the difference between resigning and getting fired is money. I guess that if you get fired your contract gets paid up, whereas if you resign you walk away with nothing. Like I said, just guessing.
I've got nothing against the England coaches staying, in fairness none of us really have an idea how effective they are behind the scenes. Under the right manager they might click, but it's good to have another opportunity at getting a top man in.
