Its like the half full glass. Realistically a draw and 1 point perpetuates the steady decline down the table. Basically it will mean 6 matches without a win or 14 points dropped and 1 win in last 8 in all comps (against Villa schoolboys) and 7th or 8th by the weekend. That's why we have to go for a win. And tbf although the mancs defence is rubbish they are overall stronger than the spuds, which we should really dispatch.
Draws are useless in football, unless you're fighting for survival. Might aswell go all out trying to win and come out losing, than play for a draw.
2 draws is worse than a win and loss but ideally you win as many games as possible and turn as many losses into draws (obvious statement) the Reality is we have fallen back on ourselves a bit and we deliberately went for an attacking outlook v utd and ended up losing 3 goals. Against Burnley we played in front of them all game and lost to a silly error. Really the issue is balance. IMO milner is not a great CM option as he will go off playing as a winger and leave gaps unless he's pinned in a three. Klopp knows it. We cannot leave thiago alone as a no 6. he hasn't the fitness. So we need 2 hanging back. But what happened v utd? Milner at CB, salah tracking rashford. one ball, goal. If we are sending Trent and robertson forward then send them forward with CMS covering properly. If we are sending them forward we need to put the ball out to them quick and we need wide forwards to come out and give the out ball. If we are sending one CM to press then they have to put the effort in.
Not necessarily. Draws against teams near you in league aren’t too bad as means they don’t catch up / get away from you.
What we are playing for now is a top four slot at the end of the season. City will walk the league now and United will also be in the top four. That leaves two slots between Spurs, Us, Leicester and possibly a resurgent Chelsea under Tuchel. Many have said our squad was too limited, look at our bench this season and look at our competitors benches. We have to get that CL slot to allow the significant rebuilding that will be needed this Summer
And not forgetting West Ham and Everton fighting for top 6. The next 2 matches will tell us more about their ambitions too. spurs and Everton have matches in hand over us so that even our current position could be a false flattering one. Realistically we want 2 wins in the next 2 matches against Spurs and West Ham to get back to top 4. That will put these insurgents in their place and dent their ambitions. 2 draws or worse we could end up in 6th or lower. Basically we have no room for any error.
I mean technically might not be. Losing to spurs would give them a chance to get 6 points over 2 games and we could only get max of 3. however drawing to them only allows them to get a max of 4 points and gives us a chance to also get 4. so would be net 0 points compared to -3 points in terms of points won yes a win and defeat gives you more than 2 draws but 2 draws stops your opponents getting maxed points if you’re playing rivals which can be just as important
Until every team as played thirty-eight games, every position is false... ...unless you're 20+ points clear at the top of course
