One win in seven looks really bad whichever way you try to spin it. It's a bit sad that fans of Hull City would even try to do that, but here we have it. KLP might not guarantee promotion, but he'd give us a better chance.
Of course no team will be perfect, and I don't expect us to be. But, I would like us to at least look at our weaknesses, work on them, and try not to repeat the same mistakes. At the very least, appear to be trying to change. The problem is, this has been a common occurence since the start of the season. That isn't just an issue to do with form, that's an issue that sits deeper. There's a clear issue with our inability to be tactically flexible. There have been too many times where our formation and tactics have clearly not been the right ones, but the manager remains steadfast with them regardless. I am not saying I know better than Grant at all, but there are times when it is clear changes need to be made but none are. I would like to think a more capable manager has, at least, some form of tactical flexibility, and doesn't come out with bullshit like "Our Plan B is to make Plan A better.". Obviously, it isn't a guarantee that a change in manager would result in a change in fortunes, but I would rather us take that chance. That would be a fine excuse if I was happy when we don't win, but I'm not, so that's an absolute load of bollocks. The actual issue stemmed from that fact I was being critical early on in the season, when we were winning, because I pointed out some issues which teams are now actually starting to pick us up on. Now we're on 1 win in 7, and whenever someone who isn't me makes those points, they funnily enough aren't treated like persona non grata. Funny that.
And tbh with the signing of Whyte he’s going to be that from the bench. He can’t play up front on his own and theres no way he will displace Wilks and Whyte. its a pity we didn’t get Madine But we need to strengthen with a proper Centre forward
There does seem to be some genuine coaching issues in terms of identifying recurring defensive issues which we see repeated time and time again.
It’s a forum for discussing things. Even football sometimes It's like a 'Discussion', often it will be a 'Debate' maybe even an argument. Courtesy of Kemptons '****asaurus'...
It's not even an issue from just this season either, it's been throughout McCann's tenure. I think us going down actually helped hide those issues for a little bit because it was lower calibre of opposition overall. Even Adkins had issues defensively as well, so it isn't solely a McCann issue.
No defeat, but not a great day. The pack are bunching. It would'nt be Hull City if we did things the easy way.
All fair points, but none cover the fact we are creating a very good amount of decent chances with the way we are set up to play and it's the players that are missing them and even though we miss those chances we where second highest scoring team before KO today, how does anything you've said ( all fair points ) change that fact? To score more goals, the set up doesn't need changing, the players needs to take the good amount of chances we are creating IMO. If the players took the chances created would we be having this conversation? On your second point, I'm not saying you are happy when we don't win, but as I said, you do come across that way
I think 433 just does not suit us, or at least, the players we have available. That's not an issue of just today though. Again, I don't know the 'perfect' choice, but I'm also not paid to do that either. The issues today were once again the defensive ones - the goal was yet another example of our poor work on defending set pieces. The red card obviously never helps a side, but even if Burke was on the pitch, I think that corner would've gone the same way, like it has done so often.
After a slow start, I thought we were much improved in the second half. The goal was well taken, but then disaster from one poor pass, an unfortunate slip resulting in the red card and then, well you know the rest. Whyte looked useful and put in some great crosses which bodes well for the future. We need to string a run together like we did early doors, I think our squad depth will serve us well as the season goes on. UTT
It doesn’t suit any team except Liverpool and Barcelona, who have billion pound squads and forwards that score every week. It isolates our striker. It would work better with somebody like Wilks up front, as we’ve seen, but with Magennis and Eaves they just walk around and expect the ball to come to them.
I don't expect us to take every chance, but we are missing an alarming number of them. Our chance conversion rate is dire, and nearly half of our goals are from set pieces. There's an issue somewhere that needs addressing, and whether that is through bringing in new striking options or doing more work on the training ground, I don't know. But it is happening way, way too often at this point now. As I said before, I don't think 433 works for us. It isolates our striker and makes it harder for us to build attacks, as our main outlet seems to be knocking the ball downfield half the time. A change, or at least TRYING a different formation, maybe with two up top, would be nice. If it fails, fine. But you need to give it a chance. On the second point - maybe in your mind that is the case, but next time, don't just instantly assume that 100% is the case and accuse me of not being a 'real fan' or whatever all that 'real fan' bollocks is about. And I know I'm saying this at you, but it isn't all aimed at you, but there are others who need to stop this bullshit, not just to me, but to anyone on here.
Over the last 6 games and 8th over the last 10... Every team will have a bad run of form in the season. We are 3rd in the table that actually matters so that shows over the season we have been better for a longer period of time then we have been poor. We are creating chances, we are doing good business in the window and are now stronger then we where a week ago. As I said to quill, it would be a lot more worrying if we didn't create chances and where getting our arses handed to us weekly, but bar the Fleetwood away league game, when have we actually been comprehensively out played? Unfortunately we are in L1, if the players or teams in this league where consistent then you and I both know they wouldn't be in this league.
The irony is that we have a striker who regularly converts when given the opportunity to play, but we WON'T ****ING START HIM
