Lawro reads old newspapers, checks fixtures, re-runs old predictions and expects Saints to lose shock..
Against a good side like Leicester, I think the result depends on whether Ings plays or not. Was Ralph playing mind games saying he won't play, or will he train today, start and take us and Rodgers by surprise? If Ings does play, the whole team performs better, and we'll have a good chance. If he doesn't it will take a battling performance to get a draw, which I'd take now if we were offered it.
I don’t get modern fans. How can a fan of a little club like ours, use “massive disappointment” alongside “finally win it again”?? Priority order for me: 1. I would like my club to win something. 2. I would like to be there at the ground when it happens 3. If I can’t be at the ground, I’d like to be at the venue for the atmosphere (assuming non Covid and I just didn’t get a ticket) 4. I would like to be able to watch the game on television if I can’t get a ticket 5. I’d like to see it with my son If we had won a Cup 4 or 5 times in the last 20 years or so, I may edge towards getting into the big European stuff to be able to see us compete there, but we haven’t. We’ve won feck all. I want us to win a cup and celebrate wildly, running up and down the garden, street, stadium, anywhere in a gigantic emotional wave. If we qualify for Europe, I’ll punch the air with delight and sing some songs, but no mates of mine will be getting their front doors painted red and white stripes!
That's fair enough. My comment was from a selfish point of view - if we qualified for Europe, I would be going on three great trips/holidays to watch us overseas regardless of whether I got match tickets or not. For me, in terms of life experiences and making memories, those three trips with all my mates would eclipse a cup final win in an empty stadium. Prague was probably the best experience I've had as a Saints fan, and we were awful in the actual game! If the stadium was full, then it would be a different story, but that's just my take on it
Edited to suit my preferences 4.1 I would like to be able to watch the game in O'Casey's in The Hague if I can’t get a ticket and travel to the game 4.2 I would like to be able to watch the game on television if I can’t get a ticket I'm known in O'Casey's for my enthusiastic and vociferous support, winning would have me putting footprints on the ceiling.
I hope we win it this year in an empty stadium and qualify for Europe. You’d then go on your trip round Europe with your mates and I’d still bet in 20 years time, you’d be sipping on your beer in a pub reminiscing with your mates about the day we won the Cup in 2021, rather than the trip to Rome, Budapest and Prague.
I get your point but the trip to Hamburg in '84 was pretty wild and not entirely in the Donald Trump sense...
Funnily enough I don't remember the match that much as I was a bit worse for wear to say the least , that German beer is strong!
Speaking of Europe, the third competition begins next season if I remember rightly. Does anyone know if we get an extra European spot or just one less EL one?
Had no idea about that. https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/news/0264-10fe90612aa3-37b2bc77f89e-1000/ Sounds like it is being introduced so that Europa League can be streamlined a bit. So it's made up of, as far as I can see, some teams who'd usually be in the Europa League, and then teams from the smaller football nations. For the PL it looks like the top four still get CL, the cup winners and 5th get Europa League and then 6th gets Europa Conference. A bit confusing that link.
Yeah I think you’re right, I guess the same cup things apply (so if a top 4 team win the FA cup then 7th would get Europa League 2)
