Sunderland host Burton Albion at the Stadium of Light in the SkyBet League One Last time out Sunderland drew with Fleetwood and Burton beat Charlton. Phil Parkinson joins the long list of ex Sunderland managers as the Black Cats announced his departure at midnight on Sunday. First team coach Andrew Taylor with take temporary charge of the team while Sunderland look for a new manager. Burton currently sit in the bottom 3 in League One with 10 points from 14 games, but the Brewers beat in form Charlton 4-2 in their last game and should be treated with respect. JAKE Buxton will have nearly a full squad to chose from when the Brewers travel to Sunderland on Tuesday. Only striker Kane Hemmings will be missing through injury with the rest of the team having recovered from injury or Covid-19 and with no niggles reported after Tuesday’s 4-2 win. Phil Parkinson: “Gizza Job.” Preparations for Tuesday’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Burton Albion will resume on Monday, with first-team coach Andrew Taylor taking charge of the squad. The board will now begin the search for a new manager and will make no further comment until this process is completed. Jake Buxton: “We woke up on Wednesday morning with a better feeling than we have had in previous games but also the mood in training, you could tell that confidence was coming back into the group, and the performance levels in training were very good.” “A few home truths were spoken after the Northampton game and I let a few players know what I thought. We dusted ourselves down, picked things up on Monday and then it was down to the players to carry out what we wanted them to do and on Tuesday they carried it out just as we had asked.” “It’s the first time I have had to speak to people about having a rest and being out of the squad, and that shows where we have been in terms of Covid and our injury list. Tuesday is the first time we had a near full choice of players and the outcome is that we win a game of football.” Match Appointments: Referee: CHRISTOPHER SARGINSON Assistant Referees: Gareth Mellor and Simon Clayton Fourth Official: David Avent Team Line ups Sunderland: Matthews, O’Nien, Sanderson, Wright, McFadzean, Hume, Leadbitter, Scowen, Embleton, Diamond, Maguire. Subs: Burge, Flanagan, Dobson, Neil, Power, Graham, Wyke Injured: Feeney, Xhemajli, Willis, Kimpioka, Younger. Burton Albion: O'Hara, Brayford, Hughes, Bostwick, Daniel, Quinn, Gilligan, Edwards, Powell, Vernam, Akins Subs: Wallace, Lawless, Fox, O'Toole, Gallacher, Garratt, Ennis Injured: Hemmings. Betting Odds: Home 22/21 Away 12/5 Draw 23/10 My two pence: Well – it’s never boring being a Sunderland fan. Another one bites the dust but I’m sure that there’s already a queue forming to step into Parky’s shoes. Hopefully we will see a more attacking formation and an injection of youth along with a new manager bounce. I’m going for a 3-1 win. Got only to the team you put out. You applied for the job yet ? You should. No use for a big lump forward with this formation. With the movement in those front three and wing backs as well, it really would mesmerize most teams in this turd division. Oh if only . . . KTF
cant see past a good win for us lads will be up for it to impress the incoming manager, hope to see McGeady play and turn on the skill as well, we have missed him
I'm hoping to see a big reaction from the players but looking at Burton's last result theyll be full of confidence and looking to take advantage of our situation. Narrow home win
I think we will win the game but don't think he will deviate from Parkys tactics too much. Maybe 45 mins each for Embleton and Diamond due to Embletons injuries. Would like to see Sanderson come in and play a flat back 4 but can't see it. I'd play: Burge Onien Wright Sanderson Hume Diamond Leadbitter Scowen Embleton McGeady Grigg
RTB As for the team.. hopefully some of the younger players who have shown well will make a start? Home win, I hope!
mcGeady can’t play mate. He isn’t part of the squad and can’t be added until the transfer window opens
I thought embleton played the full 90 the last time he started a match with no reaction to his previous injury, we need to keep him match fit so I would expect if picked he plays the full match.
Can't remember if he got the full 90, I know Parky dropped him from the squad altogether for the next game so not sure how 'ready' he is. If he is then chuck him in.
Hoping to see us play with a bit more spring in our step now Parky's gone, been flat as **** last few performances. I'd be going a 4-3-3 but not convinced I'll see a change in formation. Hope Embleton gets a start an all, got to bringing our talented youngsters in and giving them a go. Home win for me Clive.
HA'WAY THE LADS MACKEMS ATTACKEM Fingers crossed for a win to keep in the hunt. Be interested to see if all subs are used and at key times rather than throw a couple on at the end. Also whether diamond etc will be given a shot. Good luck Parky, no animosity from me but you didn't cut it mate and needed peddled. I hope we get the right man in now.
