There is no point discussing this subject with both of you lads. To my mind, people living in denial are helping to spread the virus further. You would obviously disagree.

We will all just have to accept each other's opinion and move on.
Fair enough mate.

To my mind though, it’s simply not denial though, it’s disbelief at the lack of large scale debate, where plenty is attempted from reputable sources.

Gosh 999's, that comment shocks me.

You have either been listening to Donald Trump and his buddies too much or you are taking some sort of hallucinate substance which is affecting your brain. Over 40 million people have been infected in the world and 1.122 million people have died.

Do you believe 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis during the Second World War or was that a figment of somebody's imagination too?

As I've said, there is no point in discussing this subject further with you because you are in denial.

That's quite a leap of faith mate, I have no connection with Donald Trump or any other political affiliation. To suggest I am taking drugs is an afront to me. I can't even comprehend what the rest of your post is suggesting? I realise that my post is somewhat confrontational, did you read it?

I'm off to bed now and will catch up with everything tomorrow.

I never suggested you were taking drugs. Lots of different medication can make you hallucinate too.

Your comment that there is no virus is truly amazing. I can't get over that a man of your intelligence would say such a thing.

Jesus Christ Fingy, you know me and I know you in real life. You know ( I hope ) that I'm a decent fellow hoop, and I know that you're one of the same. I hope you think the same, but I'm trying to stick up for my Irish mates here. Ireland shouldn't be heading towards lockdown. What's wrong with that?

Yes I agree with you 999's, we are fellow hoops.

Ireland unfortunately has no choice but to head into lock down number two, For an island of 7m people, our figures of new cases are way too high lately. They are worse in the North. The open border is making it harder to get things under control. I think yesterday we had 2,300 new cases of covid North and South. That would be equivalent to something like 27.5k cases in the UK in one day.

It is way too late, I am off to bed too. Apologies for giving the wrong impression of you. I know you are a decent skin lol.

It's been reported here today that they have found mutations of Covid 19 in some very recent cases in Trondheim which they say seem more infectious and giving earlier symptoms. Apparently they think they have seen this in the UK, and are trying to check this back.

No.

Never submit to suppression!

Stand-up and be on the right side my old mate. Goodnight.

I'm sorry to bring @sb_73 into this bit, but I'm pretty sure he can vouch for me ... Stan?
Fingy, while I am as bemused by Ninesey’s attitude to the virus as you are, I’ve travelled extensively with the man and he’s not a Holocaust denier. Indeed I’ve walked around the Ghetto in Kraków with him while heavily and painfully hungover, circumstances in which any latent anti semitism would surely emerge. They didn’t. It’s a crass insinuation mate.

I think he’s reflecting one of the far ends of the spectrum of frustration that has built up over months of this ****. And freed from the shackles of being a mod he is expressing himself in an inflammatory way. Or he’s on a wind up.

But we would all be wise to remember that there are posters on this board who have lost people close to them during this epidemic, or who are living with the consequences of infection. There is a thin line between inflammatory and insensitive. I am not one to walk on eggshells or repress my own views to avoid hurting other people’s feelings, but a bit of delicacy is nothing to be ashamed of.

Have to say this ‘we are fellow Hoops’ stuff never feels right to me. It’s not a Masonic lodge (is it?). There are many Hoops who I am sure I don’t share any values with. Michael Gove for example.

As a ‘fellow hoop’ I can agree with these sentiments.

There is no virus Fingy, it's gone. It's passed and we need to move on. ( If not here in the next few weeks, I take back what I said. )

Sorry 999s you are wrong

We can discuss the right way to approach the pandemic.

We can discuss whether letting a few people (20-50k!) die of it, is acceptable.

We can discuss herd immunity.

We can discuss whether the vaccine will work.

But one thing is true and beyond discussion is that Coronavirus 2019 exists and is still circulating

Maybe we should accept the idea of regular pre emptive lockdowns each lasting about 2 weeks - perhaps timed to coincide with school holidays. These could be periodic, even when coronavirus cases are either low or non existent. Advance knowledge of when they are going to happen, and how long they will be, would reduce the impact on business, and on the mental health associated with uncertainty. It can't be denied that the last lockdown had a positive effect in killing off the seasonal flu wave as well as several other infectious diseases. With globalization being what it is then pandemics may be a regular occurence in the future so maybe we should think of these periodic lockdowns as a chance to clear out the system in the same way as Christians or Muslims use the fasting period.

Where is the dislike button?

You can 'dislike' as much as you like but it doesn't change the facts Woody. Pandemics, or localized epidemics, have been part and parcel of all human history - our mistake was in thinking that such things 'couldn't happen here'. So in the West we all played the game of wait and see, and that is the very policy which is unthinkable when talking about pandemics. Only pre emptive measures really work effectively. We will always have epidemics on this planet, and the Globalization, which none of us voted for, will ensure that they become pandemics.

Central government discussions with mayor, council leaders and MPs, including Tory MPs, in Manchester get nowhere.

****ing ace negotiators our national leaders aren’t they? In the words of Malcolm Tucker ‘from bean to cup, they **** up’.

I guess you are being a bit tongue in cheek associating Values with Gove. He seems a stand-out Politician of the kind whose only values are to follow whatever way the wind is blowing, his main rival Matt Hancock.
