I'd love to be wrong, but I just don't see this being a good move. He's looked unfit and past it the last few times I've seen him play - and that was in a West Brom side far superior to our current team. The only hope would be that Dykes would do the running and Charlie would be able to do the scoring, but I'm not convinced.
Yeah I agree. I honestly think that we had him at his best time. I've seen him play a few times at West Brom and he looked totally off the pace.
I fear you would be right but I do recall an ageing Paul Furlong joining us for one last hurrah and staying for an incredible five, goal-laden years. Charlie's game was never about his pace or physicality. For the right (modest) wages, it might be worth a punt.
Never about pace but I reckon he did rely on his physicality, in fact that was one of his strong points. We need an option of a forward runner, so just maybe one of our midfielders might try to pass it forwards
Aye - very physical. I remember him being very good at attacking the ball from corners, including defensive corners. Thinking about it ... SIGN HIM UP. Can we just bring him on for corners?
Although very exciting if it happens, and the fact BOS has been playing whilst Manning hasn't supports this. I believe this was a line taken from an interview with one of our coaches Neil Banfield. He said it would be a win-win situation if BOS signed. "Signing a new contract didn't stop Eze getting a dream move only 12 months after signing a new contract". I do not think he was speaking from any point of knowledge ...just saying that he might. In fact Brugge have come back for him again. This will not do anything for us as we have already accepted their offer, and it was BOS who turned them down. To me I cannot see the reason for not signing. I assume we are offering them a bit more money, and if their lawyers put get out of jail clauses in the new contracts, why not sign, Manning does not look to be as hot property as he hoped. BOS will be helped with another strong season
Interesting to see Manning played for U23s yesterday, not sure what to make of this, regaining fitness for 1st team, or dumped in U23s as refusing to sign a contract?
My read on it is that BOS’s advisers are continuing to have contract discussions (while maybe both club and player have agreement to be open to acceptable offers). Whereas it was being said Manning was changing agent so either there are no discussions on a new contact happening and/or his new agent is actively looking another club (both of which make him uncommitted to the club)
will be good news indeed if BOS signs a new deal. As Beth says in earlier post, Eze signed a new deal and was then sold later :-( Manning should just knuckle down and either earn a new contract whether with us, or prove how good he is to suitable employers. On earlier comments about Charlie, he has / would have something to prove to West Brom that they would be wrong / are wrong t let him go. I would be happy to see him back although I do not always think it is better to return to a club where you make your name.
He was at his peak with us in 2014, six years later it would be hard to see him being anywhere near that level but he'd still score at Championship level. If a decent loan deal can be reached he has to improve us...
McKenna our one time alleged target last summer has gone to forest for 3m plus add ons on a 4 year contract.......That's a complete team they've signed this summer and gives them a 1st team squad of 39 players......madness....
They will be bang in trouble soon enough, looks like Derby who have done the same in recent years, have ran out of ways to 're-finance' and are pretty much skint
That's good news if we want to keep Manning we must play him where he is best suited, it's still O.K. to fill in where needed. I have the feeling if he plays regularly he will shortly become a valuable asset.
Read somewhere he was playing midfield. From the highlights on the Official it does look like he was playing centrally in midfield from later on in the 1st half at least. Some nice passes from there, plus a good stop of a breakout by an Ipswich player, from which he advanced on their goal and scored from some distance.
