As I said in another thread, I hope they didn't read someone has paid £532 million for Roma, a club which shares a ground they don't own.
I think they went when they were merged with Hull Ionians? There’s a Hull RUFC though Old man used to H&ER 60s/70s. I recall watching him snap someone’s ribs at the Circle and I played for the colts there a few times too.
Ah. Didn't hear of the merger, or didn't twig as my old man used to bundle up a months worth of Green Sports Mail & shipped 'em to me. Only really reviewd the football news - including Kingburn Athletic who played on the recca off Park Ave off Beverley Rd in Hessle (early '60s). The place was always packed with supporters (was opposite my parents house) - more Union fans than football fans.
Probably the same person who negotiated with them when he trousered a £1m interest free loan from messers twat nackers a bit back.
A few of the older players kept H&ER going for a bit after the first team and committee were part of the Ionians merger. Hull RUFC were originally Old Hymerians and played at Haworth Park before moving to the YPI
I did object. Not really comparable. The name change attempt was just stupidity from Assam Allam. One top class RL team representing Hull (& ER) sharing facilities with City isn't stupidity, but good sense; a bold move that gives Hull (& ER) a much better chance to thrive in terms of both football and RL.
As he gets on with them it would be no problem. More chance and there is a rumour of the Allams buying Rovers to get hold of the land round there. Didn't the council say they were willing to sell it to hudgell? Could be a way of the council trying to work with the Allams.
Over to my husband for comment. " I played RU for Hull College of Technology from 1956-59 and Hull &ER were a very strong club having at least 4 teams. Sent out their 3rd team to play us when we played first teams including Old Hymerians, Old Grammarians, Ionians, Marist Old Boys among others. I was also the Union club secretary and sent in a match report which was published weekly in the Hull Daily Mail. My mate Bill Cormack who played with me at Hull Tech went on to play for the Hull &ER first team. They had a couple of players close to international standard - one was a huge second row forward called Jack Stothard? His father worked with my dad. "
The rumour about the Allams buying Rovers, is about as reliable as the one about a London consortium buying City.
I've been to Rome. Beautiful city, but some parts are in ruins, therefore £500million is a bit steep!
I think John Buckton who went on to play for Saracens and England started at Hull & ER. His father was a teacher at Hull Grammar school.
I worked with Steve Gerking, former Hull &ER off half. A very nice guy and good work colleague. I also worked with Steve Rouse, former City schoolboys and Scarborough larker. Got dropped by Colin Appleton for nutmegging an opponent. True story.
Great player was Rousey but too good for his own good. He got dropped by Johnny Key after nutmegging him, taking the piss when winning, hurt a bit more though John broke his jaw.
