Whilst I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just wondering why you mentioned that we have used the green striped one before, when the yellow/blue halved one was our home kit for something like 14 years and also our away kit in in 98/99, and I have to admit I liked that version
Just didn't like the half/half, the green stripe is significant of that time, always have the Yeboah hat trick in that, like to keep that image. Just my opinion of course. If we're going retro, why not go all the way back, when non of us were here to see it worn.
It's the wages though. Stones will be on excess of 100k a week. 3 x the amount of our current highest earner. Get him for 20 million on 120k a week on a 5 year contract = 50 million quid. We'd struggle to recoup that fee if we decided to sell, or find a buyer willing to pay his wages. Sound familiar to the Ridsfail era? Ben White is on 5k a week. Offer 30 million and 30k a week for 5 years = 38 million quid and he would retain more value if we sold him on during that period. I'm not saying we should go for either, just that the wages will cost in excess of the fee. Stones is a non starter for me.
Fair enough, as I associate the half and half strip as the start of our last successful period when O'Leary took charge of us, Alan Smith making his debut, qualifying for the Uefa cup, beating West Ham 5-1 at Upton park ( they finished 5th in the league that year, one place behind us), and also visiting Roma for the first time. I'm not keen on the version posted in Elland's opening post myself, not sure why, but just posted because it seemed strange that you mentioned that we had already done the green stripes , when the half/half was the more recent away kits of the two, but I can at least understand why the striped one is easier for you to recall
Two trains of thought on White I’ve read have sympathy with both viewpoints. Spend the money on a player already well integrated into the squad and style of play. The other is, he is a player we had last season, we have a limited transfer budget and we would be spending a sizeable amount of it on a player here last year so effectively not strengthening the championship team.
I did say that he should score more but neither Nketiah nor Big Kev could replace him. I remember the abuse Sterling got when he was doing exactly the same for England. He dug in and under Pep is now a regular goalscorer. If Bamford wasn't getting into those positions then Bielsa wouldn't pick him. Also, if his work rate dropped, he wouldn't make the team. Imagine if he did start converting 20% more of the chances he got? He'd be £50m striker. I think our two best finishers are Dallas and Ayling Robbie Keane was a good striker because he always made the keeper work. I'd be interested how many of Bamford's chances were saved or hit the woodwork. He's one of ours so I want him to get better at converting chances. An absolute no to Stones. If Pep doesn't pick him then Bielsa won't and £22m is too much for White
Need Phil Hay to say that we’re looking at a one legged striker just so Chelsea, Everton, Newcastle, Villa, Southampton can all say we are too
It sounds like SBOTOP are going to be the main shirt sponsor next year. It was announced by Manx Radio who apparently have the same director as the betting firm.
https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/celton-manx-sbotop-to-sponsor-leeds-united/ Biggest commercial deal in Leeds football history Celton Manx has signed a multi-year partnership with Leeds United Football Club, with its new global sports betting brand SBOTOP ("S B O Top") becoming the club's principal sponsor. In the largest commercial deal in the club's history, the SBOTOP logo will feature on the front of the white shirt from the start of the new premier league season. it will also be on training wear, the digital perimeter info panels and on the backdrop to media interviews. Celton Manx/SBOTOP executive director Bill Mummery says he's "thrilled" to enter into a relationship with Leeds "with their rich heritage and enormous fan base".
Strange that Leeds didn't announce it at the same time but I imagine announcing it first has given radio manx more coverage than normal.
I remember them sponsoring West Ham and think they may have sponsored Cardiff too, although that was under the SBOBET name as opposed to SBOTOP Think they have a decent market share in the Asian betting markets though Edit : Looks like they had sponsored West Ham from 2011(replacing a deal worth about £2mil per year), no amounts mentioned but was said to be lucrative. It was replaced with a deal with FOREX worth £3 million per year for 3 years in 2013. Looks like they sponsored West Ham in 2008 as well Also sponsored Cardiff for 2 years when they were a Championship side, for £250k per year
This lot were doing West Ham a while ago, but this is a huge mainly in Asia operation and Isle of Man being a tax haven..... Wouldnt surprise me if they do money laundering too SBOTOP is part of the Celton Manx Group which holds a licence from the Isle of Man to operate both the SBOTOP brand and Asia-facing SBOBet, which previously sponsored West Ham United. SBOTOP operates in Great Britain under a white label agreement with TGP Europe, which also hosts white label sites for Watford sponsor Sportsbet.io, Newcastle sponsor Funbet88 and former Everton sponsor Sportpesa. The GB-facing SBOTOP site is currently not live but promises the “latest casino games” and live dealer products, while a .com site is live in jurisdictions other than Great Britain, offering betting and casino products.
