Strange that Kingston upon Thames never became known simply as “Thames”...There is a lot in a name....whether a person or a place. Hull is really Kingston-Upon-Hull.....you have to admit Hull sounds a much grimmer place.![]()
It’s a popular local (to me) legend that people who buy houses on the new estates in Peasedown St. John (where it really doesn’t rain any more than anywhere else), refer to their home turf as Upper Wellow, after the nearby picture-postcard village in the valley below.
