Strange that Kingston upon Thames never became known simply as “Thames”... It’s a popular local (to me) legend that people who buy houses on the new estates in Peasedown St. John (where it really doesn’t rain any more than anywhere else), refer to their home turf as Upper Wellow, after the nearby picture-postcard village in the valley below.
Better than North Radstock I suppose. I lived in Peasedown, pre bypass; is unrecogniseable now...I like how all the businesses on the trading estate are Bath this and Bath that, not a mention of Peasedown
I used to do something similar years ago when I lived in Millbrook. If I met a posh girl out in town it would always be 'Maybush'.
The old Maybush pub used to have a bad rep though IIRC. Sholing and Woolston were nearly as bad as Weston, Netley is ok though.
Oh Christ, reminds me of an ex-girlfriend who had a place in Knighthood Park. I think those addresses are Eastleigh but if we were ever in a taxi she’d make a point of saying it was closer to Winchester! Good to see Volkins get a new deal. Clearly there’s something there but Ralph wanted him to be better at 1v1 play. He must be responding to challenges set his way so good on him. Should get more chances next season.
Heh, kinda wonder if I did business with them a few weeks ago. We shipped something to a customer who insisted his address was Dibden Purlieu, and was a bit put off when I had to change his information because none of the shipping software (based on post code) agreed.
Dibden Purlieu joins ‘Westward Ho!’, that one train station in Wales and Gropecunt Lane as places my American wife refuses to accept are real.
