I disagree......personally I think anything goes myself (my original comment was more a snipe at Boyle who seems to me anyway to be an arrogant **** who can’t take stick when thrown at him). I’d really be interested as to where you draw the line Goldie.....probably not for this thread. It’s always been a subject that interests me. I better not put up my top 3 of offensive jokes I feel.......think a ban would be incoming.
Are we all bored with the plague ravaging the nation already? Anyone who wants to restrict what people can make jokes about wants to restrict free speech and they can **** off as far as I am concerned. Everyone is free to take offence and moan about it, or just ignore it like a grown up. Or maybe realise that things that are funny to everyone are extremely rare and that things that some people find funny might be baffling to us, without having to assume that they must also be morally degenerate if they like something you don’t (I make an exception for fans of Michael McIntyre and Mrs Brown’s Boys - they of course are the spawn of the devil). I’m really struggling to get a laugh out of the Bank of England economic forecasts - 14% drop in GDP, 9% unemployment etc - but I’m sure those who bet against the UK economy are pissing themselves.
I'm not in favour of over-censorship, so I agree with you that far. And so does the law to an extent. I'm not in favour of someone being prosecuted for making any joke although there are things you can't joke about legally - something that might incite violence for example. I think it's more that if a joke or a comedian offends public sensibilities to a great degree, that comedian should lose access to the public through the media. And certainly public funded media like the BBC. That happened to Bernard Manning and his racist jokes. He was pretty much confined to Northern Men's clubs. I do the same to Boyle, whom I cannot stand.
There is a difference though between a joke which seems to incite violence but is in fact a joke and actually inciting violence. And any **** who doesn’t understand that should have his head kicked in.
Well, thank you for that view from the 1970's terraces, Stan. But that is not the law. The fact is that if someone tells a joke that is hostile to a person or group that is protected (race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, gender) they could find themselves in trouble re hate speech. If you don't like it, start petitioning your MP now.
Do it Most of us are adults Put them on the joke thread though as most of the so called grown ups don't frequent there
It’s politics mate, like everything else, stick it on that thread. Are you on your week off or on nights? Lenin is only a minor improvement on Mao by the way. And before you go there I’m not a fan of Trotsky, Stalin or Ho Chi Minh either. Try this bloke. Look closely at his cap badge.
Ok here is the big difference to Frankie Boyle jokes and Bernard Manning jokes. Frankie says things for pure shock value, the pure reactionary comedy, not saying that I completely agree with it but that's what it is. Bernard Manning jokes about black people because he has a problem with them, flat out doesn't like them. Does anyone remember him being shown up for the **** he is on the Mrs Merton show?
Had a letter from HMRC today about getting self employment income support, which was the first brown envelope through the door with good news inside it for a long time
Last day off today then back to weekend day shifts.....only 3 days this week then off for r. To be honest, work will be a more restful experience than being at home...trying to home school the kids really isn’t good for my blood pressure Starting my healthy eating/ upping the training from Monday.....been going for a few 11km runs which have been good as I’ve found a nice field nearby that gets me away from pavement and traffic, but to counter that I’ve been eating crap like chocolate raisins and tortilla chips that have got me putting on a stone since the gym visits have stopped. I’ve tried but can’t make out the cap badge...Who is it ? I feel I should know. Maybe the Rev Jim Jones should return....would that be more suitable ?
Is this thread about Frank Boyle, must be in the wrong place....but in other news Appararently , none of those Turkish gowns we bought as PPE in that ill-fated relief flight that took days to get here, have passed muster and are now sitting in a warehouse somewhere, but according to Turkey we haven't made a complaint!!!! (Are we too scared too?)
Look after yourself. Pompey gave a clue, it’s Beunaventura Durruti, Spanish civil war anarchist military leader, head of the Durruti Column (which the Manc band Durutti Column misspelled). The badge is the red/black emblem of the CNT/FAI, like my avatar.
