I had the misfortune of him commentating on the Liverpool 4 Barca 0 game. Wished it was Peter Drury. Have to say thay he does have his moments in big game moments like the Aguero vs QPR Kompany vs Leiciester Salah vs Chelsea Unfortunately these moments are rare and far apart.
To be fair, Hendo always had the passing in the locker. My frustration with him was that he would rarely use it and that he wouldn’t take risks - he could ping the odd long ball here and there but it wasnt threatening enough. I dont believe that he was told to play it safe because fabinho cane into the 6 and was far more expansive. I do believe it’s just Hendo playing within himself. Howver, since Fabinho was out injured, Hendo has become a beast. Whether it’s because he learnt something from Fab or he’s just become supremely confident, I don’t know. Whatever it is, the guy is seriously making an impact on this team. His output in terms of assists and overall creativity is through the roof over the past 2-3 months.
Yeah, Hendo plays it safe far too often. Lately he hasn't and has shown that he is technically able too. He is a fantastic captain though and just takes it under his wing
Even though Klopp himself has stated that to be the case? My take on it is this: Hendo isn't the best ball-player and doesn't seem very confident of himself if caught in possession in a dangerous position. He'll take chances going forward but in the withdrawn role that Klopp told him to play he played safe whenever there was any danger. I'm ok with this, we already had more attacking players than most so for a DM to play safe is no problem. Contrast this with Can, who thought he was Didi Hamann, and frequently allowed himself to get caught in possession, but unlike Didi got himself into trouble too often.
that maybe the case. I just find it strange how Fabinho can come in and play the role differently and more expansively but the hendo was told to be more reserved. Is Klopp telling both players different things? And then Hendo goes back into that role and starts playing more expansively lol
Hadn't Klopp said he didn't realise quite how good Hendo could be on the ball? When he arrived, Hendo was playing a reserved role and Klopp just kept him there believing it to be his best position?
