FFP applies only to European competitions. The limit on wage spend applies to all football clubs down to league 2 in one form or another. There's no other financial restrictions stopping any club from growing and spending any way they see fit. I've got issues with Wolves and their less than transparent financial strategies but that aside, they are managing good performances and results in Europe and the league so it can be done. Also, qualifying for Europe doesn't set you back financially, it gives you a financial boost and makes you more attractive to prospective targets. Ousting the top 6 is hard, you're right but they didn't get there by default, they earned it (obvious exceptions). What happened with Virgil wasn't fair to you but what happened with Torres, Suarez, Coutinho ...... wasn't fair to us. It happens. I've got no problem with billionaires buying clubs especially local ones like your example. The Moores family did it with Everton and got them some success but they failed to build on or sustain it. That happens too. I'm not in favour of cooking the books and less so of compounding that with trying to hide it. Chelsea, city, Wolves makes no difference. I'm just happy that we're doing it the right way - as far as we know I think both us and utd *wash my mouth out* historically have what we have by sheer hard work on and off the field. We've made good appointments and player purchases that fit a system that works for us and not had it handed to us. As saint intimated, from this starting point it is hard for others to compete and properly challenge but unlike you, I don't think it's impossible.
I thought Leicester had breached something but they haven’t been relegated back down to face the music Doubt it will even be remembered if they did now they would not even have been in prem had they not cheated like city and the rules were there It’s up to the relevant authorities to sort at the time not retrospectively punish imho
But whilst we worked har we still pushed the boundaries paying higher wages - offering other benefits It’s all relative - I totally agree that we are being well run to my knowledge atm but to think that some of our success was down to hard work alone (it was there - city have had to work hard - just made easier by the cash) I think maybe slightly rose tinted from our parts what is certain is this is a right mess
On this no one can break into the big 6 it obviously can be done as it used to be a big 4 & then joined by 2 clubs who took vastly different routes to get there in City & Spurs .
Oh yeah I know but all the crap about Leicester doing it the right way and being held up as a perfect model was always crazy to me as they cheated as much as city did Had they not done the fairy tale would never have happened Think I have said before I think the punishment is pretty much bang on for city but all this deducting points and removing trophies is ridiculous imho Sort it swiftly and keeep it in perspective imho
The answer to that is you have to buy parts that work for your kart that Ferrari don't want. Leicester hit upon a Vardy stroke engine that is great for them and nobody else wants it - see it can be done.
Well yeah but wages are the biggest obstacle for the smaller clubs trying to catch up. I wasn't saying the Virgil situation wasn't fair, I was using it as an example of why the wages etc. are such a factor. The top clubs can offer double if not treble the top end of the rest, so you've got next to no chance of being able to keep that player once the interest is there. If you wanted to invest as a local billionaire to try and keep some of these players then the rules prohibit you to do so. Football league definitely has ffp regulations (think Wolves would be feeling that if relegated) - https://www.efl.com/-more/governanc...appendix-5---financial-fair-play-regulations/ As you allude to I'm not sure Wolves are an example of doing things the right way I'm not denying that clubs like yourself and United have earnt your success over the year, and therefore your position of power, but it's a bit dull knowing that nobody else can ever break that. Take teams buying their success out of the equation and the Premier league would have only seen three different winners in 30 years.
6 different winners but yes I get your point. One thing the lower leagues have that the PL doesn't have is promotion where the winners are moved on and the rest of the teams have a chance to top the league the following season ad infinitum. The PL is the pinnacle and there's nowhere for the big teams to go but stay there and get better and bigger. So the uniteds and Chelseas aren't going anywhere until what has actually happened, happens - others step up. The big 4 had become the big 6 maybe it will keep growing but from the lower leagues perspective it's the big 20.
Three? I assume you mean Man Utd, Arsenal and Leicester? But... 30yrs takes us back to 1990; pre-PL and would include Liverpool and Leeds too?
I meant since its inception rather than 30 years really, feels about the same to me as it's around the time I was born. But it was yourselves rather than Leicester I was speaking about as you've finished second to City twice and I'm sure you'd have won one by now had Chelsea/City not arrived on the scene.
