So Coronovirus is pretty easily infective but not as deadly as SARS (what I mean by that is less % of those who are infected will die), but the SARS pandemic was better and more quickly contained atthe beginning. SARS is actually quite hard to transmit from person to person. It appears that Corona virus transmission is quite easy, and also transmits before real symptoms are present to alert the patient that they are ill and should take precautions.
It will take away the weak, the infirm, the young, the old and the immune compromised, it could run through a lot of people in poorer countries.
In the case of the poor doctor who got it, I suspect he received a large and continous dose and he was completely unaware.
It is worrying but I suspect it will not solve the population crisis, unless it mutates.
Can it mutate .... it has once already to allow it to jump from Pangolin to humans
(It is unlike that it is a snake virus, as stated in daily fail, it would be a huge evolutionary jump to go from existing in a cold blooded animal to living in a warm blooded animal like humans...Pangolins are mammals before any one asks)

Bit worrying this, just before the carnival time in places like the Rhineland. This event is a regular breeding ground for the exchange of viruses of all kinds anyway - is there a need to prevent large events of this sort ? Also - why do these things always appear to come from China ?
Because they eat things like Pangolins, cologne
They have open air meat and fish markets with less hygenic regulations
They live in close communities with a lot of people using public transport

Quite worrying that in the UK it's doubled in less than Twenty Four hours, will for sure be unsuspecting carriers, Brighton not far from London, I reckon it has potential to be rife in a city like London, with it's transport links etc.

The doctor in the GP surgery in Brighton obviously caught it from the people who brought it back from France.
It is obviously very easy to transmit.
We will now see how easy it is to fight, when picked up early and in a country with a lot of ability to fight it
You could also say it will disproportionally effect the poor because they are the ones more reliant on public transport - like crowded buses and the like. In places like the USA where so many need to check their pockets before going to the doctor for a check up this could be a big problem.

The poor, the undernourished and people who live hand to mouth will be disportionally affected in this country too.
It will have started in China in small numbers, there is people that are still oblivious to it. Agree, will be able to defend against it here better. However, the swine flu in 2009 put paid to my brother, if it spirals badly, the NHS will never cope with it.
I am sorry to hear about your brother Blyth. Swine flu was a very bad pandemic, it affected the whole country and very quickly but apparently there were 457 recorded death in the UK, and at its height 100,000 people a week were getting it . Over 600,000 in this country are recognised as definately having Swine flu
So far, Coronavirus is killing 2% of those affected, but a lot of people are ill as it is so transmittable
SARS was more deadly in killing 10% of those affected
To put into perspective, seasonal flu, which we currently try and control with seasonal flu jabs apparently kills 17, 000 people a year in the UK.
Oh and by the way I have a sore throat and a headache, which is why I have become interested in it but I have not been to Brighton
According to WHO...575,400 deaths and 61 million infected....about 10 % of registered infected .
Corona virus is 1% deaths but SARs is 10%.
It sounds that Corona is a magnitude less dangerous, than what has gone before.

Do you know how this one is transmitted Beth ? Over the air, or by touch (physical contact) or both ? In the middle ages they realised the need to avoid large gatherings of people at public events which was why they closed the Globe theatre towards the end of the 16th Century. Depending on the means of infection the Cologne Carnival is coming at the wrong time - many indoor events here have been cancelled already.

I believe it to be airbourn human to human now, through small droplets. Although droplets on surfaces touched with a hand etc will also be a mode of transmission.
They are saying 5 metre radius is good.
So basically you will not have a high risk in a street, but in close confines you will.
I think the main problem is it is transmissible before any big symptoms appear, so people give it others before they know they are ill.
