So this isn’t at all footie related, but I wanted some thoughts on me dog. so me and my lass got a sausage dog about 6 months back, he’s 11 months old now. goes in his crate through the night (not having him on the bed, we’d get no kip) we’ve been told he’s got seperation anxiety, so when me and my lass go to work he basically is a little ****er, turns destructive. also, he seems to **** in his crate a lot even though he’s been crate trained, but apparently that’s to get his own back and me and my lass going out and leaving him. (She goes back to see him on her lunch, so he’s not left all day) he also hates going outside, which is find extremely rare on a dog. Anyone had similar things to this? We love the dog but it’s a bit of a struggle when we’re both full time workers and he’s just misbehaving a lot, even though we’ve trained all the basics.
Think its more likely the dog is jealous of your Mrs - try putting her in the crate and have your dog in the bed.
Do you take him out before work? I have 2 border collies, the oldest, when a pup, would wreck the place if she'd not been out
dogs are pack animals... separation is a nightmare for them. instinct is survive in packs. go figure people shouldnt get dogs if they cannot luck after them. must be on its own for 20 hrs a day 5 days a week.
If you were locked in a cage for long periods of time you'd probably be a bit of a **** to the people who kept locking you up. My advice is stop locking him in the cage.....seriously. Take him out for walks, despite his apparent hatred of going out, take a ball and one of them flingy stick things...make it fun for him. Get him interacting with other dogs. You'll soon find that once he's burning some of that energy he'll settle at home. Where do you have him on a night time when you're sitting watching tv or that? If he has his own dog bed in the living room or whatever and he settles in that then you should have no problem with him doing the same when you go to bed if you put a dog bed in your bedroom, or in the hallway outside perhaps if he's been exercised and stimulated (not in the way Roy Keane does mind). It's all about routine with dogs mate, ignore the bad behaviour and reward the good (treats, toys, stroking him etc). Do this for 2-3 weeks and you'll sharp see a difference.
Aye so me and my lass take him out for a quick walk before we go to work, then get back get ready for work etc. About 3/4 hours later she goes back to the house (works a lot closer to home than I do) feeds him, let’s him out and stuff, then obviously she has to go back to work. then as soon as we get back from work we let him straight him out, take him out for a walk (in terms of walks he’s cracking doesn’t need a lead, perfectly behaved in that sense) & we’ve got him this massive bed what he has in the living room and obviously we have a mess about with him and stuff and he’s not back in his crate until we go to bed. Got **** loads of toys, gets fed some proper good food, gets better scran than I do So it’s just when we’re at work as it’s impossible to really keep him out of his crate as he’s a chewer so he’d chew the **** out the furniture/wires etc.
When he's chewing **** get a rolled up newspaper and twat the little ****er, not hard, just enough that he gets the message. A stern "no" at the same time will help. No point in doing this when you get home as he won't link the punishment with the crime. Get him alternatives to chew. Praise the **** out of him when he's chewing the alternatives and anything he does that is good. It's simple really, keep him in a routine, tire the **** out of him, huge amounts of praise when he's good and punishment when he's bad. My two are bastards when they are not tired and out of a routine. The change of routine doesn't have to be a big one. We went on holiday a few years back and left them with my brother to look after. When we got back the dominant dog had turned into 100 times the nutter he always was, launching attacks at the submissive dog non stop. Took me about a month to get them back to some sort of order. Good luck.
Get a greyhound next time. The laziest dog ever bred when kept inside and full of energy when they're let out. They are absolutely perfect apartment dogs .
my dad gets old racing greyhounds ... they get treated like **** , so he gets them and gives them happy endings ... lovely placid dogs
That must be where the phrase "It's a dogs life" comes from.....****ing lazy bastards !! Sounds like heaven if you ask me :-D
