No knowledge of the chap, but underwhelmed. If I see him show good selfless teamwork, or loyalty to saints (if he does get a run in our team) by the end of the season it’ll be a nice surprise.
I think this is fine, people ****ting themselves that we've lost Cedric is the best thing online for weeks!! Pochetino and Ralph think kwp is a good talent and we get £5M for a player who let's face it is only mildly better than Cuco Martina. We are effectively 9 points from safety, maybe a few more this season, we have momentum, we have players performing out of their skins, Ings, Redmond, JWP, Stephens all much improved, heck even Vesty put in a shift the other game. Players will fill in for Kwp when he surges forward, his pace is probably better than Cedric and crossing can't be any worse I can seriously see kwp playing well, the loan becomes a permanent and he has a similar effect on the team that Bertrand has had over the years. Soares on the other hand will not get signed by arsenal after the loan, then end up moving to a lower league Premier League team or he will move abroad somewhere, he peaked with his Euros win. For once in a January window we have not been mugged off, we have done the mugging!! Come on guys Positivity! I'm gonna bet on kwp scoring against Liverpool!
If KWP meets or exceeds expectations, then how much will spuds want for him at the end of the season ?
Cedric is injured at present (we assume), so realistically he only has what, 10-12 games left in him for Saints - so getting £5m for him seems OK.
Must admit this transfer of Cedric is one of the most surprising I have known however if Leicester had bought Vester that would have trumped it. Nice to be giggling after a transfer window instead of crying
Can't believe we turned down £15m for him. Leicester may be foolish offering even that much, but it seems they arent completely crazy as it has all gone quiet now.
They definitely made contact with Saints and from the reports it seems £15m was what they were willing to pay. Whether an official bid was ever put in Im not sure.
Well if they over price him, they will be left with a player that they have no intention of using. He's not gonna do so well that he gets a move to a big club, so as long as Ralph and the lads make a good impression and he likes it here, if we want him, he would be likely to come here I would have thought. Im sure we have a value in mind for this player so if it's around that price, and he does well, we would put a bid in, if he's priced too high, we will walk away.
In all fairness, cedric has been proper **** for ages. The last 4/5 games he has been trying again, and credit for that, but he is no loss like some people are suggesting.
^^^ This. Bertrand was an example of this, did really well on loan, he liked it here, so he came. Bear in mind that he has come through the Spurs academy and to him he has played for his dream team. Man U, Liverpool, City etc aren't going to come knocking IMO in the summer, so if he likes it here and we want him, I am pretty confident we can get him.
We have had our fingers burned before, so understand our reluctance to buy now when we are playing better and look to be safe (fingers crossed, touch wood). There were rumours that Kyle was offered to us for sale, but doubt this now...because surely if that was true we would have been given an option to buy in the summer. This suggests either that Spurs have faith in him as a Spurs player or as a more valuable player for sale in the summer. Also possible that KWP didn't want to tie himself down to a Saints option because he hopes for a better move after shining for us (hopefully).
Agreed, but Toby had played for a big team and a move to Spurs was a big move...and they came knocking. With KWP, he is already at Spurs and I cannot see one of the big 6 coming in for him - maybe an outside chance of Chelsea...he would 100% move there as in London and a much bigger club than us. I think we can rule out a move to Arsenal as he is a Spurs lad at heart?
I think IF he does well enough to attract interest for a permanent move, then outside of us, it will be your Evertons/West Hams (if they stay up)/Crystal Palaces. And if that calibre of club come in for him then he will have had a good few months with us, which is a positive. If he does just okay then perhaps we'll go for him, or maybe a promoted team would.
That was a completely different case, for starters he had a decent career before we got him, secondly they screwed us over and made him available to other teams, spurs stepped in and most players would rather play there than here. By all accounts he had agreed the loan with option to buy at the beginning so would have been happy to sign on a perm as per the arrangement. Obvs when Spurs showed interest, he would have been up for it. This deal has no option and maybe we only see him as short term or spurs see him as a part of their future. Let's just hope he plays well while here and if we sign him great, if not, never mind, get someone else in the summer.
I'm less excited about the Cedric move. Everyone is saying we're playing well and seem safe from relegation. And that is probably true, but that makes it even less logical to try and save a few quid. We will probably stay up. We don't really need to get better. The biggest danger to us is an injury crisis at fullback, or KWP sucks. Unlikely perhaps, but why take that risk on at all, if we don't have to? I'm less concerned about the move directly, I guess than by the potential money implications. This doesn't seem to me like the kind of move a team that is flush with cash makes. If us having to sell to buy applies even to six months of wages, that's a little scary. It's probably not a big deal, but it makes me a little nervous.
This is the 2nd January window on the spin that Ralph has loaned out Cedric. Maybe Ralph just doesn't fancy him at this time of year! He's studied his career and worked out he starts well and then tails off, can anyone recall if that is true from his previous seasons with us? He certainly didn't impress during his loan last time, he hardly played!!
