See new mandatory rules coming out the end of this month... https://www.caa.co.uk/Consumers/Unmanned-aircraft/Our-role/Drone-and-model-aircraft-registration/ So it got me thinking, do any of you guise own one, what's the pros and cons of various makes and models. I've seen them used as aerial footage on youtube, for traveller destinations, they always seem decent video shots.
I hate people who use drones to get travel footage for social media. Annoying buzzing sound ruins the moment! And they all seem to totally ignore any rules around where you can and can’t use them! I quite like the idea of drones but the people who use them seem like dicks.
Bought a cheap one for the kid a couple of years ago, it's quite fun to fly but the novelty wore off quickly.
They are increasingly being used by rescue services. Coastguard, search and rescue. Fire services to get a quick assessment on the state of fires and best approach for firefighters. Also being used by inspection services to look at power lines etc. They've definitely got their place.
They’re being used for shark spotting in Australia to give warnings to beaches. So I suppose they have some good uses!
Seeing more and more use of them in oil and gas work particularly in remote areas for both data acquisition and surveying. Can also use them to spy on climate change protesters.
