You ain't ****ing kidding . A woman I work withs boyfriend works at Melton for a company that makes shower cubicles . They are putting in robots at the minute ! They are obviously having teething problems so have been getting in a guy to sort out the problems ! £2,000 a day he has been charging
Good luck and go with it if you really want to do the degree. It'll be worthwhile in a personal and intellectual sense plus will extend your long term career ambitions. Short term I hope you can find something you keep you afloat.
How times have changed, I had 2 jobs all my working life, my son who is nearly 50 has been employed for the most part all his working life, must have had in excess of 10 different jobs.
Cheers for the well wishes guys. This really is a brilliant community. I have a few things to follow up.
Yep, I’ve had people working for me, never again. Also the best partnership in business is definitely a partnership of one. I wouldn’t even want to be in an employed sales management role and have the responsibility of attempting to get the people working under you to have the same mindset as yourself, as many of them just want to spend most of the day either chatting to each other or logging onto Facebook, Instagram, etc. Customers seem to come way down their list. Nope, I’m more than happy just to be responsible for myself, and it being down to my own sales as to how much income I generate.
I take your point about jobs but I wouldn’t want to knock the diversity of degrees/courses per se – we need a critically literate society with a broad range of skills and ideas. Although, in the neoliberalised, utilitarian marketplace that we exist in – I agree, certain ends can appear dead.
To get on the ladder & stay on the ladder, more than quallies, you need good network (mates/relatives) and a helping hand onto the first rung. Get your foot in the door somehow, get known, meet people etc I know this gonna sound kinda crazy in this digital age, but you also need what we Boomers used to refer to as luck......
Strangely, luck seems to consistently bless certain strata. A meritocracy is, as initially meant and used by its original author, a fallacy. So I agree, luck is all of what many can hope for.
I'm talking about the Hull stratum. Also nepotism is alive and well, be it in local politics or most local HU medium/employers. Does anyone know if having the right handshake still opens any doors these days?
Just my angle obviously, but don't you lads worry the use of all these fancy words make you seem a bit desperate to come across as an Intellectual?
