Ah yes, how did I miss him, I was looking for JJ.
Re MAHLERS STAR. I have to say I am pretty surprised that this one was on his radar. He has already been tried pointing and certainly seems to have been found out in the stamina department. Most of his racing under rules has been at around 2m 4f which about the point where is reserves run dry.
I am surprised too that he even ended up with Milton Bradley, chasers are hardly his thing.
On a positive note he doesnt have too many miles on the clock. If he can find him some opportunities at the shorter, sharper tracks he may well have some fun.

I have always thought that when going to the sales you can be in a catch 22 situation. Say he liked Supreme Steel, very late in the sale, but didnt want to go home empty handed and Mahlers Star is there at the right price. Difficult scenario huh. You could miss one you like and then the one you really wanted goes for silly money.

Interesting purchase from amongst the Gigginstown lots was old boy Tombstone for 26k. I see that connections are looking for a swift turnaround and his immediate aim will be to win next month’s ‘Welsh Champion Hurdle’. Although I guess the 11th richest man in Wales will have something to say about that…

right, I’ve had the lowdown. He did want knight bachelor but one of Alan hills owners wanted him and my mate was in no position for a bidding war. My mate looked at lots of horses and being a farrier has a good idea what he’s looking at and binned loads as being knackered or cranky. He was shown a horse that finished in the top ten in the national and he said it was knackered had bad feet and it’s back was gone, went for Seventy grand. Anyway you are right mahlers star didn’t do to well pointing and I quote Alan hills, they didn’t know what they were doing so disregard that you are also right that two and a half miles will be his trip but he does have stamina on his dams side same as Trev. Alan hills is going to train the horse as my mate felt he bit off more than he could chew so he will ride out at Alan’s a couple of days a week and they are targeting some races in December, one at cottenham.
Alan seems to think he will be very competitive this year and my mate will get more experience as Alan is thinking of giving him the leg up on something else.

Cheers Flo. I do wish him all the best and he could hardly be in better hands. Alan and Lawney have a nice set up and know what they are doing. You should get down there one morning for gallops or schooling, its a beautiful setting.

An update on Mahlers star. He had his first run at the cottenham ptp . He contested the novice riders conditions race. Going off 8/1 fourth in the the market. He went off in front at the head of the field contesting the lead for the first circuit but eventually finishing fifth of twelve running out of gas from two out with the eventual winner being call me Vic a horse trained by the forums second favourite trainer fobs partner Sal randell .trainer and jockey/owner were happy with miltons , stable names, first run jumping soundly but as I said just running out of gas..
The winner looked smart being a multiple ptp winner.

Thought I’d give an update maulers star. In early January he competed in a men’s novice rider and finished second receiving 5lb from the winner. Yesterday we went to see him race at cottenham in the men’s open over three miles where he took up the running but clouted the second fence but managed to regain his composure and settled into midfield going out on the second circuit they upped the tempo and he dropped back to second last but my mate got after him and he rallied from three out to finish a very close third the jolly was a clear winner. I was gutted as I’d backed him without the fave.
Anyway we went bac to the horse box for a little soirée where I met the trainer lawny hill and really nice up and coming jockey Izzy Harrison who some of you will have benefitted rom her riding a while back.
Anyway the biggest news is they’ve qualified for the Cheltenham hunter chase meeting in may where I’ve been promised o and t passes.
Oh and the small matter of my mate passing his jockey exams.
    Anyway cheers.
