Morning, troops. I see it’s The Derby, at Epsom, today (3.25). Of a ‘Jump Jockeys’ variety that is…. Incidenatlly, Cochise who didn’t go yesterday may now be heading to Chepstow next Tuesday.
I think you couldnt go far wrong with the rf in the derby 4 and 2 . They were respectivly 1st and second lto at t/d both proving they can carry the weight .
I'm surprised you haven't mentioned Yanworth's debut over on the Emerald Isle later today? The trip of 2 miles looking way too sharp and quotes of 25/1 appear realistic.
Cor blimey I didn’t even know it was taking place until you mentioned it. Good luck to the old boy, say I. Very valuable pot he’s running for later on. I wonder if they would be tempted (given who now trains him) by hunter or X-country chases at some point in the future.
Out of curiosity just had a look on ‘Oddschecker’ and you can get 25/1 about Yanworth and the ’20 X-Country Chase at the Festival. Anyone tempted to add him to their old portfolio?!?
The Nursery that opens the Doncaster card today looks decent. I don't back in Nursery races very often these days but have always had a preference for the higher weights in the better quality affairs. Stylistique ran in a Group 3 last time and although 4th she was not beaten far behind Boomer, who runs later in the May Hill. She got closer to Boomer that day than on their previous meeting and she looked to me to be a filly who could be 100 rated before season's end. She therefore has to be of interest off 94 today. Ultra Violet is one of those horses you have to shake your head about and wonder what the hell the trainer is thinking about. She bolted up on debut by 8 lengths from a filly who later won quite well. The trainer stepped her up to 7F next time, stating that he felt she needed further after doing all her good work late in her debut race. The big problem was that Ultra Violet never settled at all and had burned herself out long before the trip became an issue. It was the sort of headstrong showing that you would have expected to have been addressed long before. Bizarrely they then dropped her to 5F at Ripon and she did not have the speed to get involved. Very poor decision making from connections and she has a lot to prove after a promising start. Eve Johnson Houghton has a couple of contenders and Company Minx would also be in with a shout but I am sticking with Stylistique at 6/1 in the hope she has a little bit of class. Cloak Of Spirit was well supported on debut and won in taking fashion. I thought we might have seen her again before now and she is short enough at 2/1 for me. I'll stick with Boomer, who repelled Dark Lady last time and that filly went on to win her next race. Boomer will need to come forward but that it possible and at 7/1 she represents a reasonable bit of value with the mile perhaps suiting her today. 2.10 Doncaster Stylistique 6/1 3.45 Doncaster Boomer 7/1 Two win singles and an each-way double the two.
When I was a puppy, many years ago, I always did a "tanner" yankee on the TV races. Best I ever did was 3 out of 4 and I suspect that will be the same today. IWhen I grew up a bit, I recognised the difficulty of getting 4 winners and ever since I have only ever backed singles and doubles. That was going to be the same today, but for some reason, I decided to click on the Yankee option. I'm already well up on the day .... so I will let it ride.
Just to add insult to injury - after placing those 4 bets, I did Berrahri in the jump jocks race - won 6-1 ..... dunno why I'm pissed about getting another winner!!! Edit: come on Nass, let's hear that bloody awful song again
