Agreed. I was like others feeling a bit disappointed after last two games, as we appeared not to have improved in key areas with defensive errors being the main problem. This is no doubt a good result, however achieved and hopefully that will help the on-field confidence levels to keep the improvements up. Early days but encouraging all the same.
Football is a simple game....get to the byline...cross the ball....score a goal...Boom!. Been the same since Sir Stanley Matthew's day.
Hard to get much of a feel for that game. We did look kinda bad 11 v11. After the red we had obvious advantage and I thought mostly we were patient more than ineffective and it was just a matter of tiring them out. I did think Djenopo looked good, and would have without a man advantage. I wouldn't say he made the difference -- the red card did-- but he was good. Danso seemed kind of average, but consistently average given our defense is good! Overall we got lucky with the red but in the end given our play over three games so far, 3 points for a total is about fair.
I suspect we have a meeting between half full and half empty. I agree we were poor today but the win is huge and some real positives. Djenepo as I said last week looks the real deal. Redmond is Redmond and Boufal has another shot and is taking it. Danso playing his very first game in the Prem totally out of position on his wrong foot. I think he’ll take your average rating!
The Burnley match was disappointing but a likely result at a windy Turf Moor on an opening day. I fail to find anything but encouragement from our performance against The Scousers apart from their second goal.
Missed another sitter but even apart from that, generally just out-muscled every time he tried to get on the ball. His positioning and movement was all very, dare I say it, Championship-level. Of course it's very early in his career and he will improve, but he was nowhere near as lively as Ings today. Obviously he will go and score a hat-trick next week, and go on to be our player of the season.
First sign of madness is replying to yourself. No, seriously I hope you're right. We need Danso to work out more than anything. But I'd still prefer to see Vokins playing LB next game. Danso was solid, but he is not going to offer anything like Vokins will going forward.
Genuinely excited by our attacking options this season, Djenepo asnd Boufal are going to cause havoc against tiring defences later in games.
I'm really glad I'm going on Tuesday now. Moussa and Boufal will almost certainly start and that is a very enticing prospect.
A win is a win, but Tom we were lucky, they missed two sitters, and were the better team for 70% of the game with 10 men. Not dwelling on it, still need a lot of improvement but a win is a win.
Ehh... people are yelling at you, but you're pretty much accurate. Redmond was our best player bu far. JWP and Vestergaard were quietly solid as well. Most everyone else was kinda meh. Hojbjerg and Romeu were surprisingly disappointing and probably accounted for a lot of the blah performance. Boufal came into a good situation. As did Djenopo to a lesser extent so I feel like I can't rate them one way or the other, other than to say they at least got the job done, which is better than last year.
We were poor today. The result was deceptive. We were off the pace on the first half and looked clueless going forward. The red card made the difference and we scored against the run of play when they were down to ten. They still posed more of a threat when down to ten than we ever showed and the final goal was more to do with tired opposition than anything else. The positives are we won, we won on the road and we kept a clean sheet. Delighted with 3 points, very happy with a clean sheet, but stupidity to give us numerical advantage and VAR cancelling a goal that was otherwise being given and the individual brilliance for the first goal saved us.
That goal was never ever being given even without VAR. Last season the referee would have had a chat with the AR, established that Burn was interfering with play and disallowed it.
