Totally agree that the Academy is to make money and also a way if beating FFFP rules as academy/development players dont count in the total. However my biggest fear is that we have 20 players who were out on loan last season and what the hell is happening to offload the majority who are surplus

We can loan them out to lesser teams like Cardiff (cue Sparkles) or Nillwall...

May have to eat humble pie there Wakey me old mate.
Philips is as good if not better that Henderson and he has Captained England, Philips has a great engine on him and tough tackler where it’s important, breaks attack’s up.
Please don’t say Forshaw as a replacement.

I suppose we still have Forshaw <yikes>

Morning Doha

Hull City are chasing Malik Wilks so thats 2 Championship clubs. I'm guessing that if we sell him its because Bielsa doesn't see a future for him at ER

I think you hit the nail on the head right there. A few years ago it looked like his place on the team was in doubt. Mowatt had jumped in from of him along with Cook but he has turned out good. I think people are forgetting he's been around that team for ages and I mean ages. If he had come from another club he would have been shipped off to A lower league club years ago not treated like a god[
Morning all

Don't give 2 hoots about Phillips leaving TBH. We could probably find someone with as much talent some where else however £20 million would be greatly accepted.

3 senior squads over the line is always good especially this early on in the window.

I gonna say this now....

Signing kids for the Under 23s to me is pointless. We got the kid from Carlisle and this Spanish kid coming in for the U23s and they're 18 and 20. If they're good enough to sign then they should be good enough for the senior squad. You gotta remember that Smith and Woodgate were regular starters at the age of 17 and Lennon first appearance was at the age of 15.
Morning all. What makes you think that some of the younger players will not be good enough for the first team squad? I imagine that several of the under 23s are on the verge of selection.

Glad we’ve got Clarke back - sensible bit of business from Leeds - shame we can’t keep him but that’s the realities of the championship and hopefully once we’ve got some others off the books/moved on that we don’t want then then that’s the transfer we have to make so we don’t have to sell Phillips/(anyone else) - wouldn’t sell him except for silly money and that would be 30 million plus - understand it’s all opinions but find it difficult for people to look at what he did last season and not think he was brilliant in his position and a lynchpin for Bielsa’s system.

Would be a shame if Jansson went but if he went to a premier league team then it would be fair enough, if he goes to Fulham then it would say to me then he and Bielsa have issues but hopefully they don’t and hopefully he doesn’t!

As for the U23’s/21’s - I’m sure most are bought with the hope they’ll make it but they also have to make a team and the more promising players will develop quicker and stronger if they’re in a better overall team - so I’m sure some are bought with the thought that they might not be good to enough to make it but will make the U23’s team better overall.

but as Eire says it’s all a gamble

At least this is happening s a great window for the club as we also have Clarke

Approx 1m from signing on fee and between 10 and 20 percent of his weekly wage would be about normal. Brother in law of a friend Looks after some high profile players and hes coining it. Private swimming at his house etc

Good Morning all. Great deal for Clark, gets his form back, and will be well happy, if he doesn't,cheers Spurs. Philips, sell for £30 million, if scum buy Villas midfielder for £50 million, then a better Philips is a bargain for them and too good to turn down. Really hoping for Costa this week, ready for the new season if we get him.

Why would the clarke sale be pointless. Thats the idea of the academy to make some money as rads has already stated. Signings have been made with the funds made avaliable. If phillips goes for a chunk of money then great and use it.
Because I’m assuming we sold Clarke to fund this seasons push. If we sold Philips for £20m then we lose a vital cog that would need replacing. It’s okay saying go out and spend £10m on his replacement but if that was out there Villa would take that option and save some cash. Cibicki, Forshaw, O’Kane, Anita, De Brock all players where we can save a few extra quid and bring a bit extra in

The Costa deal means we pay Wolves £2m for just borrowing him and also pay him £1m+ in wages so £3m on a player who isn't ours. In the past we've spent £3m on buying a mediocre player and being lumbered with him, but this way we get a £13m player and decide if we want to buy him in a year? Positive move

Philips has started following the villa players on social media
