The notion that he doesn't care isn't just from his dip in form but also that he's stated that it might be time to move on. And maybe, just maybe, his form dipped because he wants to move on.

Probably because your opinion is ridiculous. The fact you're dredging up the repeatedly debunked "Saltypool were fine after selling Coutinho" bollocks confirms this.

For the most part, we played badly, as a team, when compared to previous seasons. Toby apart, I can't think of anyone who wasn't injured for some time but the majority of the players were poor and this was probably due in large part because they were injured or coming back from injury...

Harry Kane carried injuries, played when he wasn't fit and looked a fraction of his normal self;
Dele had short bursts of form, punctuated by injuries and poor form after being rushed back;
Son's form fell off a cliff after City away having been severely overplayed for us and Korea;
Winks was overplayed given his fitness and broke down with further injury as a result;
Eric Dier looked unfit and then had 2 serious illnesses
Davies carried a groin injury all season;
Trippier carried a groin injury all season;
Danny Rose couldn't play back to back games until February and looked unfit at times;
Aurier suffered 3 injuries and never looked worth a spot;
Moussa Sissoko suffered repeated groin injuries after Christmas;
Lamela, Dembele and Wanyama were never fully fit.

Picking out Eriksen or Kane or anyone is at best unrealistic. It was a season of 'getting by', That we finished Top 4 and reached the CL Final is amazing, that we looked empty when we did is much less surprising.

Or maybe he just suffered a dip in form like pretty much every other footballer in the world does.

As a collective this was one of the poorest seasons to watch Spurs. Many looked flat and void. Even Son who won our POTY had massive spells of inconsistency - 1 goal in his last 11 league games (plus a red card) and it took a while to get his first league goal, albeit he did miss three matches through Internationals. Eriksen wasn’t alone in being inconsistent or under par, yet he’s the one being lambasted despite still returning healthy statistics this season.

Thanks for laying down the law. I was thoroughly enjoying reading through the debate until it all got a bit too personal on this page. Ease off a bit lads or this place will become as dead as the goon and chelsea boards.

He still flapped when he should show more composure regardless of why he got lucky...this is not about scapegoats It's about the finer margins that seperates the winners from the also rans.

If he's one of our best then I'm going to expect the most from him especially in the big games.

I always find it amusing when you have the occasional poster saying sell an Eriksen, an Alli, Kane etc.

These are exactly the top class players that have made us a consistent top 3/4 team.

Then we hear we can sell them for >£100m to Real Madrid, Barcelona. Must be substandard footballers then, makes you wonder why the biggest clubs in world football will take them.

And who exactly is going to replace them? Our transfer record fee is <£40m.

If we can buy better players then what stops Utd, Real etc buying them first.

Ridiculous.

Yes, let’s sell the phenomenal top players we have that have see us punching above our weight with the elite.

It's like some people have either forgotten or are outright ignoring what happened the previous times we did that, namely the summer we sold both Keane and Berbatov while signing Pavlyuchenko and being allowed to borrow Fraizer Campbell, or when we sold Bale and signed half a team but no actual Bale replacement

The best player that arguably needed to go was Dembele, mainly because he wanted the move, and we've sold him already.

Selling Dele, or Eriksen, to me is a ridiculous idea when you still have N'koudou, Janssen and even arguably Lamela on the books.

Replace Dembele first, then lose and replace the obvious fringe players with improvements.

Leave Deli and Eriksen where they are. They are not throwing their toys to leave, so why push them? Competition will sort them out.

Eriksen is baffling to me too as I'd much rather he signed a new contract (which is looking increasingly likely now as Real aren't interested).

But I feel if we're honest there is genuinely a question mark hovering over young Dele. He simply hasn't progressed since his first 2 seasons, had a pretty poor world cup and has just had the most underwhelming season of his career. I'm willing to cut him some slack as the entire team was pretty underwhelming and he had his fair share of injuries, but at the same time I'm reminded how Sissoko, Son, Winks and Lucas all pushed on this season despite similar challenges.

Another season like this and come next summer I will be calling for Dele to be moved on. And I'll probably be criticised for saying it but so what. Invoking past glories doesn't cut it with me once that past becomes distant enough. No one in their right mind was calling for us to keep Adebayor because of his amazing first season. No one was calling for us to keep Soldado based on his stellar career in La Liga. Very few seem interested in keeping Lamela despite a brilliant 15/16 season either.

The difference with Dele is that there is a widely held feeling that he is destined to become a world class player. And I sincerely hope he fulfils that expectation. But if he doesn't, for whatever reason, we have to be brave enough not to pin our hopes on a select group of individuals just because they delivered the best football we've ever seen x years ago.

Eriksen is a different story entirely. He is a class above Dele and has far more impact on games. If given the highly unlikely scenario I was forced to choose between the two, I'd keep him and sell Dele. We'd get more money for him too as he's younger, plays for Ingerland and models for BooHooMan.
