where are all the hacks and pundits who make out klopp makes excuses about wind this morning??

old pep....1-0 is better result than 0-0

That return leg will be a proper match between city and Tottenham. I felt nervous last year going in to it 3-0 up, let alone just 1-0

Anyways, POTY.
All rivalries apart, Sterling has come on a lot this year. He's finally fulfilling the potential he showed in his early days with us, and both he and Pep deserve credit for that.
However, Virgil has hardly put a foot wrong - there have been no more than a handful of times when I've thought "he could have done better there". The guy has been immense - in every sense of the word - and there's no contest imo.
Whether or not there are others who have been under the (my) radar a bit I don't know.
Kane doesn't even come close.

Sometimes there's a correlation between a player's strong performances and their team's success - but that's all.
How many trophies did say, Bale, van Persie, Suarez and Salah, manage when they won the award?

ah... politics you mean.

Suarez won it on 31 league goals but also the "rehabilitation" smugness of the prem. he then promptly.bit someone at world cup

you are.right that salah won it on goals not trophies.

bale won it cos he played at spurs..

there's always a reason.

giggs won it cos he was decrepit and hadn't before for.example.

my.point is however sterling's numbers and impact as much as.lfc fans don't like it will win it not the ali g reason

Talk about shifting the goalposts. <laugh>
I agree that politics comes into it - which is why I said that it's not about trophies won.

I’m one of the few that like Sterling and he’s certainly up there as a contender for player of the year. If he had voted for someone more realistic and not Kane, then I don’t think anyone would have batted an eyelid.

But then again, these awards (along with Balon dor etc) are nothing more than popularity contests anyways. Still hope VVD Wins it!

I'm merely referring back to what I thought was the original issue, namely that sterling was only getting this out of political motivation as he's spoken out on racism.

My point on this was he probably deserves it based on his record and impact.

If others think vvd was better ok but i just think sterling has the medals from the year to prove it.

The 31-year-old has taken on English clubs 30 times over the past 13 years, scoring an impressive 22 goals and setting up six more.
Messi's record vs English teams

Club
Games Minutes Goals Assists
Chelsea 10 835 3 3
Arsenal 6 537 9 1
Manchester City 6 540 6 2
Manchester United 4 332 2 0
Tottenham 2 180 2 0
Liverpool 2 117 0 0

You're joking, right? They've won the CL twice and the EL twice.

In fairness he's confusing what he's been told is the case and what is the truth.

It'd be like someone saying to him that everton are no marks.

you and i know everton have 9 leagues titles and 5 fa cups and 1 european trophy to their name whereas man city... well... 5 leagues, 5 fa cups, 6 league cups (4 leagues, 4 league cups and 1 fa cup in the mega money era)

whos the no mark??

So to say a side like porto are european no marks is rightly a joke.

Ajax, porto and others are perenniel fixtures i nthe compeittions. They have more pedigree than PSG for example.

You can't expect Everton fans to know anything about European football <whistle>
