Whilst you have been pretty reasoned of late, the usual rambles and abuse you levy out is a dog **** way to demonstrate to younger and impressionable fans.
Just got back from Burnley. Gutted but not surprised we conceded late on. Shame for Jack as he was my MOTM to that point. Went with a neutral who thought Saints (Redmond and JWP especially) we’re pretty awesome. We both agreed Burnley should have had 2 penalties - the first he possibly went for a bit of simulation but would not have kept on his feet even if he had tried. So on balance I think we have to be grateful for a point. Best part of the day was to visit what I call a proper football stadium. Good friendly fans too.
This still bothers me. I would hate one of our players doing this. Should have been a second yellow, as I said at the time.
Many thanks S.A., I fully understand as occasionally I'm guilty of similar remarks. Respect to you for apologising in such a honest way, all forgiven. Cheers, Milton.
Reading through #saintsfc on Twitter ... makes me realise that Stephens & Targett are our new scapegoats. In the absence of others. Forsters out the team. Redmond & JWP playing well. Hoedt has been bombed out on loan. Cedrics gone.
I don’t think Targett is good enough personally. He looks a championship player to me unfortunately. I don’t think he is quick enough for Ralph’s system
He has a beautiful cross but he doesn't seem to be athletic enough - it might be something that game time or a good coach can fix?
Agreed, too early to give up on him just yet and he has the rest of the season to convince the man that really matters, Ralph.
Thought Targett played well Saturday, but Burnley’s right hand side is not the quickest either. If we can work the ball to him in good areas, then that cross is a useful weapon
Exactly this. Technically he is a good player, but I look at other full backs in the premier league and the good ones are all very quick, and able to dribble past players
I think Targett is good enough but his playbook is very predictable: get an early cross in or turn around and pass it back. I would like to see him take on players a bit more and maybe this is something that Ralph is working on with him. On Saturday he missed opportunities to cross early which surprised me - he is usually quicker with his decision making. He’ll improve I am sure but Bertie is a better choice presently in that position.
Just watched motd 2, and seen the pen (the one that was given). **** me, penalty all day long. No argument. And McCarthy definitely got away with one in the first half.
We would have lost that match with var, but it would have saved a fair bit of blood vessel bursting from Barnes as well. Still feels bad conceding so late, but could have been far worse.
No, he shouldn’t have lost it. But was he the victim of a huge (in football terms) injustice? I’d say he was. Not justifying his behaviour; but I can understand it.
