Can’t quibble with your sentiment in the opening paragraph but hindsight whilst being such a wonderful asset shouldn’t have been necessary to see the potential problems given NW has failed in the past to succeed at the next level and the areas of the team he didn’t strengthen ie defence and attack. Is it fair to summarise the whole problem as emanating from the failure to sign players to enhance the existing team rather than trying to get largely last season’s team to adapt to PL level as the season progresses?
Exactly. Replacing Warnock without a ball being kicked this season would have been seen as a huge ingratitude toward the man that got us here. An absolute no brainer to give him a shot at it, but either by accident or design, the progression of events since July have made us look incompetent and left us floundering in this division.
Incompetent? Not sure about that. We have been in with a chance to win in 4 games outside the 1 win we have. I think naive may be more appropriate.
But we didn't did we. "Incompetent"/"naive" - call it what you like, it amounts to the same thing. We are stumbling through games against teams we should be able to put away - FFS, 2 of them were down to 10 men for the majority of the second half and Burnley were a joke. Summer player recruitment was dire and you can call that naive if you like and maybe it was. Since then we've played 11 games, and except for Fulham who are a complete mess, we haven't given ourselves a decent chance in any of them. Whether you blame Warnock or not for the lack of quality players, it suggests failings from the management of the club at pitch level since to find a solution.
Never easy breaking down a packed defence and midfield with our lack of quality up front but for once we got a break in the box after twice hitting woodwork....and after Harris earlier striking the bar.
