Naw. He did step on Ings ankle but IMO, it was not intentionally and Ings was sliding into the space.
Signs. Of. Life. So happy to see us on the front foot in the second half. Ings and Ely looked good, Vestergaard looked immense and Armstrong impressed. That second half was like the old saints.
Is 20 goal attempts and no goals good enough? Same old story on that front. Thought we played ok overall, a good solid point to push on with.
Yes after the first half I would have been happy with 0-0. But after changes in second half we deserved to win!
Redmond has a good game but with the two changes we looked so much better. Ings dropped deep - picked the ball up, worked the triangles. Great stuff. What we were crying out for - he cut the space between forwards and midfield excellently. Vesters looked solid.
Not a bad opener. Some good play and we actually had shots on goal. Not totally sure about shakey Stevens. It was late in the game but saw about 3 slack passes in a row. Even so, happy with the way the team developed over the game.
No reason to panic yet this season.we looked very good in that second formation. Our quality actually shone through just didn’t get the time needed to make the vital difference. We showed the ability to unlock packed defences there, just needed an extra bit of luck. Well done Redmond. Great game. Our desperation signing not so **** after all. Danny going to have a good season here. Vestergaard was outstanding. We need a new rightback in the mould of Nat Clyne. Macca saved the day for us once again. Important saves. Mark Hughes got it wrong at the start and should have changed it at halftime but got there in the end. We got a point.
much better after the changes. Ings looks a goal threat. need to play well from the start though. Still we didn't lose or concede and we only 2 points off the leaders
Looked strong after formation change. Ings and redmond played very well later in the game. Gabb Ings Mo and Redmond look dangerous as a group
Was the most direct Redmond's been since joining us. Final ball still let him down rather often, but the final ball doesn't need to be as perfect when the defense is having to react to that pressure, compared to when you've been dancing around aimlessly on the edge of the box.
Was just about to say this. Dynamic changed when we went for a back four and pushed on. Redmond solid. Vesters outstanding. Ings a real threat.
We didn’t get enough going forward, but at least we got SOMETHING going forward. There was definitely some cleverer passing and general competency. Nice to see us actually being the ones pressing for a goal at the end instead of desperately hanging on. I didn’t think Hughes got it wrong to start. I do not blame him for being a little cautious to start the season. Also, Burnley came out looking fairly sharp so we may have needed that back five to absorb the initial wave. I think Vestergaard and McCarthy showed they could hold down the fort enough that our better defense was to force Burnley back rather than eleven men behind the ball. Agree that Redmond looked good. I said earlier I might have subbed him, but it wasn’t due to poor play. He runs at players; it’s what he does. Today he actually beat some players and kept their defenders on the back foot. I just thought we needed a decent spell of possession, and that’s not his forte. Ings looked fine,as did Austin. I don’t really have too much worry about either player when they are healthy. Just don’t see them staying healthy. Overall, it broke out like I would have hopped for in a mildly optimistic scenario. Defense looked much better with Vestergaard commanding the back line and McCarthy making some nice saves. Attack looked better (could it have looked too much worse?!?). but still looks like a weak spot going forward. We looked very 13th place-ish. I suppose after last season I will take that though still annoyed we didn’t bring in another attacker.
Redmond was terrible early on, but improved during the game. Vestergaard excellent and helped the others. We were sooo much better once the formation changed too. Danny Ings looks quality - movement, distribution, pace, touch. If he stays fit, he is a great buy
