Of course, it’s right to question everything.

But, surely, the resounding issue of this discourse was of the group’s actions, not whether the police’s decision to fly the flag was ‘arbitrary’ or ‘official’ - which seemed to dominate the thread.

In my opinion, considering the police’s past history with LGBT groups and rights, they need to show that they now are inclusive of such, which, will surely help present a more just force.

Muslims were also shoehorned into this debate. Muslims are, as I’m sure you know, incredibly diverse. I’ve known Muslim men and women from different ethnicities holding various kinds of roles and professions with an obvious mix of views. A lot of the posts concerning Muslims came across as generalised stereotypical bullshit with a dubious underlying intent.

I also utterly condemn the use of the word chavs. But you see it used casually, everywhere, often without thought. It’s all part of demonising/blaming/scapegoating of certain peoples, pitting them against each other to keep them weak and divided.

This thread may well give the " new owners " one a run for its money.

I look forward towards Humberside Police's engagement with and their inclusive, non judgmental, policies towards that put upon minority, football fans.

    It shouldn’t be really.

I’d have thought any decent minded person would simply condemn the actions of this bigoted group (or not comment at all) and that would be about that.

Instead, we had pages about the police’s decision and then a load of ignorance about Muslims.

The police are far from perfect and I suspect never will be. The way they've historically treated certain groups (and probably continue to do so) varies from wicked to stupid.

But surely the main point of this thead was about, in this day an age, a 'group' did what they did, then sent what they sent - all stemming from a Gay Pride flag.

I'd imagine the people responsible run a genuine risk of being caught and getting a criminal record - and that of a 'hate crime' - just to give oxygen to their hatred towards gays.

They've certainly besmirched the name of your town across the 'net.

Who is to say they are from my town? They could be from anywhere and just claiming to be from Brid.
Or people who moved from places like Leeds, Sheffield or Hull to enrich us as migrants do.

You know, if was going to make a stand against something, anything and try hammering it day after day ad nauseam.

If was so obsessed by one idea, one cause, I'm sure it wouldn't be tirade against people who love their home City.

That would be a very strange idea.

I'd probably campaign against *****philia or littering or something (litter really pisses me off).

But your obsession with people who love Hull, is just plain weird and your claim that everyone in this beautiful City believe that we live in the bestest place in the World is just very silly.

    Very silly indeed.

I never said where they were from.

They've called themselves Men of Bridlington so that's the story doing the rounds, hence why your town's name has been besmirched - unless you're of the opinion it puts Bridlington in a postive light.

****ing hell, this thread... at least Brady's drunken rants would only last a couple of pages at best, this is overkill.

Quelle surprise - Mr. I'm-Always-Right-And-Better-Than-Everyone-Also-Norwich-Is-The-Best-Place-On-Earth is a massive bigot. Who knew?

People diverting attention from the core issue by asking, what they believe to be, clever questions & insinuating secondary reasons for abhorant actions in a feeble & quite pathetic attempt to hide their obvious homophobic & racist attitudes.

'Men of Bridlington' has a Churchillian ring to it, or even, if you will , echoes of Henry V's speech at Agincourt before the decisive battle.

I don't understand why Brid doesn't become the Padstow of the Humberside riviera. It has access to high quality fresh seafood and an influx of tourists in summer.

Rick Stein may not be everyone's cup of tea but he has transformed that town. Is there a decent fish restaurant there or is it just competing fish and chip shops. If you to Venice or Palermo or Naples you get pizza marinara or spaghhtti (or even a risotto) ai frutti di mare or grilled orata or branzino (apologies to the less cosmopolitan or sophisticated among you). You go to Antwerp you get the old mussels in the pot with various twists. Even in Spain (the pirates of our fishing waters) they do a paella with shrimps/prawns.

Surely someone in Brid can set up a decent sophisticated fish restaurant offering a wide range of seafood (inc lobsters!) to kick start the town's comeback?
