Newcastle have bought a striker - Yoshinori Muto of Mainz for a reputed £9.5m - so hopefully that remove the log jam on Mitrovic, who was (grumpily) back in training with them yesterday.
Meanwhile, we're still being linked with a raft of other players:
* Key among them as Cookie said, Alfie Mawson of Swansea
* With Jack Wiltshire joining, West Ham are prepared to release 26 year old Pedro Obiang. Apparently we've had a snif but don't like the £15m valuation, especially given his injury record
* Turkish papers are saying that we've offered £3m for Fenerbahce's 19 year old defensive midfielder Oguz Kaan Guctekin
* French papers are saying we've shown an interest in Lille's 26 year old right back Kevin Malcuit. Lille have already turned down offers from Inter Milan and Celtic Vigo.
* Talksport are saying that we're 'targetting' Watford's 26 year old central midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure
* Real Sociadad have bounced our alleged offer (of €26m ?) for 26 year old striker Willian Jose - they're lokking for €40m !!
And outside of those a name that keeps cropping up is Bristol City's left back - Joe Bryan. We'll have to be quick though or he'll be off to Leipzig.

I'm happy with the way things have been ticking along, expect we will confirm the signing of a new centre back and striker in the next week. The signings so far look good and no signs that any of our stars are looking to leave. I understand the protracted negotiations, felt that Mitro isnt worth £20m at the end of last season (posted somewhere I wouldn't go above & 15m)although I would like to see him back again. Only worry is how he would fare in a team that isn't dominating possession and feeding him chances, which you have to expect will be the case for us in a lot of games this season, and whether he could keep his discipline. Strangely I think Fonte, who I hardly rate, might be more suited to the PL than Mitro, although I wouldn't want him to be our first choice striker. Regardless I've got faith in our manager and the team around him to bring in what we need and deliver a top 10 finish, even though anywhere above 17th has to be the main goal.
This has to be the WOW story of the day - we've made a bid for Hector Herrara of Porto (who are prepared to have a serious discussion!)

Just seen this too Cottager, would be a fantastic signing, we would also have Mr Serious and TC ahead of him, Sess and Schürrle out wide and hopefully Mitro or A N other in the middle. It's looking good, very good.
The evening may be getting better. Admittedly no press reports but the bookies have slashed the odds and social media has Alfie Mawson having a medical. Earlier the stories were that Burnley hadn't met Swansea's valuation and we'd stepped in with a £20m offer.

I hope Mitro goes elsewhere. To have him play a massively significant part in getting you into the Premiership - with at least a £160m reward - and then not meet our £18m valuation, it's a gamble you're taking.

The 'medical' story now seems a tad optimistic to say the least. However the tabloids are now giving credence to him heading our way and the local Welsh paper has joined in, although they suggest that Swansea are upping the anti to £25m.

BREAKING: (Sky Sports) Newcastle have accepted a bid from Fulham for Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Serb has left their training camp here in Portugal to finalise his move to Craven Cottage.
I heard a rumour that we're interested in Harry Arter from Bournemouth. He's Scott Parker's brother-in-law, and apparently Scotty has recommended him to Jokanovic. I'd be quite happy if that one happened - he's experienced at this level, good quality and would fit our style of play. Given our other signings, he would essentially be an upgrade on Norwood - a back-up rather than a regular starter, but a good option to turn to when the first choices are missing for any reason. I'd like one more central midfielder in addition to what Cookie said, although I'm open for o the idea of the extra midfielder already being at the club in the U23s. If not, Arter would be just the job.
Arter did of course have the awful family tragedy last December. Doing the inevitable stats thing, see however that he missed most of last season because of a variety of different injuries and only played 13 games. That said, agree with you Captain - he has the experience and is a right gutsy player. Could do worse than him as back up in the middle. Wee reservation because of his age (28), those injuries and to be honest not convinced that the Parker link is good for the dressing room.
But anyway, not likely to happen - all the other stories say that Colin reckons he's the ideal player for Cardiff.

At the risk of offending our Cardiff friend on this thread, Arter is too classy a player to play in a Warnock side. If we don't get him I hope he goes elsewhere.
The 'leaks' to Sky Sports about Mitrovic have obviously come from Newcastle. As ever we've stayed quiet until the player is formally registered and anyway, the Club never announce a signing on a Sunday so us fans will have to wait patiently until tomorrow, at best, for confirmation.
When the announcement does come, it will inevitably say "for an undisclosed fee". Newcastle meanwhile seem to have told Sky that we'd paid "£22m with £5m add-ons". These numbers are being touted by the very same Sky reporter who just last week said we'd offered £16m but Newcastle wanted £18m. My interpretation therefore, is that we've paid £17m with a further £5m to pay if certain conditions are met (goals scored??). Making a potential total of £22m.

Well, the Fulham net spend so far is £31m (we got £4.1m for goalkeeper David Button). Whereas Cardiff, for players funnily enough in the exact same positions as our purchases, have spent £30.8m.

The uneducated see Warnock as a long ball merchant, but if you look at the stats and the style of play, there is very little 'lump it up to the big guy' in his game plan. He does get the ball back to front quickly though. Usually 2 or three quick passes, often of more than 20-30 yards. There is quite a bit of skill in the play though. A midfielder who can spray passes, moving the ball quickly and accurately to the front three would fit in nicely.
As an analogy, Steven Gerrard played a lot of long passes! Not saying he'd have been a Warnock type player, but neither would you say he was a kick and chase merchant.
Each to their own. It will be interesting to see how both approaches pan out this season and where the value for money lies.
Good to see you've got one of last season's players coming back. Not a cheap way of keeping the team together though.
I'm happy with our business to date, especially as they've had a full pre-season together. If we can get Grujic back and AN Other centre mid we'll be done.
