How on planet Earth can you say that Steven Gerrard was overrated? He was a phenomenal player, and even managed to carry a bang-average Liverpool team to Champions League glory (they had Steve Finnan, Djimi Traore, and Milan Baros in the starting line up!). His all-round game was superb, and during his prime was getting Le Tissier-esque goal-scoring numbers every season. So many professionals credit him as the toughest opponent that they came up against, including our very own David Prutton.

As highly as I hold David Prutton's opinion I have never thought Gerrard was THAT good. Yes a good player, but not at the levels people always touted him at. I would've always had Lampard in my team ahead of him. Carried the Liverpool team to an extent but far too often to the detriment of the team for me, but hey opinions.

Felipe Anderson is a phenomenal talent, I've stopped getting excited over players we are linked to/sign as it is such a lottery.

Please re-label this thread "The Big Tease Thread" or "You know it will never happen thread so get on with something useful rather than wasting time here".
Thank you.

Couldnt agree more...!!!.... Gerrard often flattered to deceive, was often slow and cumbersome, but at the same time had his good games, his biggest failing imho is that he stayed at Liverpool too long, he could've moved elsewhere and really pushed on but stayed to his detriment....as for Anderson, I usually ignore these comments too.... we're linked with alongside other clubs is usually code for "he's never heard of us" .....

Or his agents list of likely candidates “leaked” to the press

You sound like how fans of other teams describe Le Tissier. <laugh>

Okay, don't take Prutt's word for it. How about every other players' word for it though, as in, he was voted Players' Player of the Season in '06. But obviously, every player in the league that year knew nothing.

Well just look at that. 849 posts and not a hint or a whisper or even a smidgen of a deal for a genuine or real new player.I am deeply indebted to this thread for keeping me abreast of incoming transfers at SFC ie naff all. This thread is like writing a Christmas wish list knowing your parents are too skint or too mean to buy you anything.

hmmm......Ill accept that, only difference being that Fat Le Tissier never pretended to be anything that he wasnt; largely the reasons that he didnt defend were that he was too knackered and too slow to do so.......luxury player that you wouldnt be able to afford these days.....

Such a luxury that he scored 161 goals for us in 443 appearances, not to mention the assists and other chances he created for others. I don’t think many sides could afford not to have a player like that in the side, even nowadays.

I'd be quite happy to raid the championship for some players this summer. Watched a fair bit of games at that level this year for one reason or another, and the Matt Targett loan showed how valuable some of our squad players might be as a sweetner.

Gibson and Traore at 'Boro or James Maddison at Norwich, for example, have definite top half of the premiership ability/potential, and a deal which puts their current clubs at the front of the queue for someone like Long, Gallagher, McQueen or Reed (on loan or otherwise) I think would really carry some weight at that level. I can't think of many premier league clubs better placed to offer this

I'd definitely be happy to take a punt on Maddison. Not convinced by Gibson tbh.

This was the mistaken idea that a succession of England managers had of him, hence the scandalously low amount of caps that he has. It has been said several times, but had he chose his other option of playing for France he would've been one of the superstars of the international scene.

Alan Ball was about the only English manager that "got him", just a shame that he was never the England manager.

That also goes for a never ending list of talented footballers we’ve had over the last 50 years!

Godders it's worse than that, we actually know our "parents" have the money - they just don't care about us humble "children".

Would like this to be true,I will ignore that the deal may be in jeopardy because Mane said he wants to play for the biggest teams........Real is as big as it gets......if so,what is our sell on %,
