If Stick is about -- what are your thoughts on the bumper at Ffos Las? For me Court Royale is way too short, I think he was flattered by his proximity to Vinndication on debut and those just behind him have hardly franked the form (Sonic rated 117, Black Kalanisi beaten in 2 subsequent bumpers). The Walters runner has been the one for money this morning and Alan King is in good form. But the one I am intrigued by is Lieutenant Henderson's Lomachenko. I say intrigued, because he was with the Crawfords until April 16th this year (but never ran for them) and then Munir and Soude snapped him up and sent him straight to Seven Barrows. Here we are just 6 weeks later and he is out in a Ffos Las bumper. Interesting with a capital "I".
After last Saturday’s three winners from three, these are the ones to avoid as lightning definitely does not strike twice with me! Plus there seem to be a lot of good favourites today... At Newmarket on Guineas day, Havana Grey looked fantastic (for a grey) before the Palace House but he had no chance as a three year old at WFA, so why is he re-opposing winner Mabs Cross when he still has no chance? At the ratings, an eighty per cent fit Battaash should win this easily even with the Group 1 penalty; hence the odds. In the three year old sprint on the same card, I really like HEARTACHE, although I do not expect she is as good as last year’s winner from the same yard. Cox is banging in the winners and I suspect that she is a decent price because of the step up to six furlongs; and I am hoping that there is no deluge at Newton-Le-Willows before race time that turns it into a real test of stamina. Fahey regards Sands Of Mali as a Group 1 horse – he may need to be as this race looks hot. The form pick in the Irish 2000 Guineas is clearly Newmarket fourth Elarqam and I cannot see any reason why Gustav Klimt will reverse the form and after this race U S Navy Flag will drop back to sprinting. The bad news is that Crowley is aboard and he never seems to win on the Hamdan horses for me, so I will just watch at the price. Most of the home team seem to be just making up the numbers but I am fascinated to see Newmarket handicap winner Symbolization pitched in here by Godolphin. Over at Goodwood in the 4:20, Sir Mark Prescott’s MELINOE, second on her seasonal bow on quicker ground, is certainly consistent. The concern is just the one career win from ten starts with six places... is she always going to find one or two too good? Today is the longest price she has been in a while. Over at Chester, second favourite in the 2:20: GOLD FILIGREE. I know somebody connected with the horse and it was originally entered for a valuable race at York’s Dante meeting (where it was quietly fancied) but is here on the Roodeye instead looking to supplement a good win in a valuable Chelmsford race with the same girl up. If she rides Chester badly, another second could be on the cards – already has five in ten starts! Also at Chester, I have been told JABBAAR in the 4:40 but my mate’s text reads “Chester 4-40 Jabbaar”, so that is all the info that I have – plus it is another favourite! Usual wealth warning applies...
Muthmir seems too big at 14/1 in the Temple, so I'm going to back him despite (or possibly because of) the drift.
G'day cobbers Race of the day is the Silver Bowl at Hyd and I feel that you will see a Qaysar laser his way to a convincing win. Also at Haydock I like Euchen Glen and Sands of Mali At Goodwood Maverick Officer would be my NB and at York, Carlton Frankie looks primed for a big run Good luck all
I knew I had done my money on Heartache half an hour before the race. Clive Cox was interviewed after winning the Silver Bowl and he was hardly effusive about her chances when asked by Rishi. The betting was also an indication, as the bookies could not give her away. I wish I could have got some free money on the exchanges by taking the 1/3 Sands Of Mali in the photo as the ITV Racing Muppets did there level best to maintain the excitement about a racing certainty on two camera angles. I wonder how long it will be before some trainer tells Rishi to **** off live on air – perhaps next week before the Derby. All day, the jockey has barely got off the winner to give the trainer the de-brief and Rishi is dragging him away to do an interview and ask him about his runner in the next race. Clearly the manners were only on loan when he worked for the BBC.
Agreed. As they went past the post I said Sands of Mali has won. When they showed the replay I said yep Sands of Mali has won. Best 1/3 shot for ages
What price Saxon Warrior for Derby glory now? The 2000 Guineas form totally trashed over at The Curragh, with Elarqam looking cooked as soon as Crowley pressed the button two furlongs out and Gustav Klimt never looking like getting to his stable companion U S Navy Flag. The winner gave everything a start and came home with a wet sail to win going away. That might have been down to Ryan going too quick on U S Navy Flag, but I guess they now know that he is a sprinter. He was going up and down on the spot in the last furlong, which is why the winner caught it.
I know it's easy to after call a race, but as I was working earlier (just got back), I forgot to do any horses at all. Ended up nipping to a 'rival' after someone reminded me classical times was running. Got quoted 33/1, so had £1 win, and £1 e/w......wish I had more days like this
Not tipping this up by any stretch but a horse called Jalor runs in the next at Ffos Last after five and a half years off. Just got me to thinking what the longest time is between runs for a horse. This has to be close to one of the longest
