I'm sure some of you may have seen the very quick interview on ITV racing on Wednesday with Richard Fahey after he had the 1-2 in the 4.35 York. In the short time he was asked about his best chance of the week and he gave NICKIS ANGEL in the opener. Was 8/1 on Wednesday, i took 5/1 after the interview and now down to 4/1 Fav. He sounded confident so let's see if she produces the goods.
The best 2YO maiden I saw last season was when Herculean beat Wadilsafa, last September, at Ascot. Neither have run since and it’s a bit ironic that after 252 days off both reappear in the same race at Newmarket of the morrow (4.25). Herculean is the current holder of the acolade ‘the hope of the county’ and a full brother to my old fave, Fair Eva, what a lovely name for a filly by the way, but does have to conceed 7 lbs to the animal he beat 1.75 lengths on their sole runs last year. This ‘novice’ event won’t be the be all and end all for either horse but will be one to watch with keen interest as I really like and rate both animals. Certainly more a notebook race than an open the vault one. However, if someone held a gun to my head, which I’m sure no-one would ever want to do, then I’d say Herculean will maintain his 100% record.
Well ,after a fine evenings entertainment at Gods own concert venue, the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, courtesy of Nils Lofgren, I am going to meander on an epic two minute rail journey from my humble abode in Orrell Park to Aintree as of the morrow, to visit the forums favourite racecourse in Gods own county of Murkeyside. What a lovely name for a county by the way. I'm sure the counties finest fillies and mares will be out in force for an aperitif before the main event of show jumping in the city centres many "all you can quaff for a fiver" exclusive bars and restaurants. Not since the halcyon days of Michael O'Neill, James Fortune and the Oaklea posse has the forum been so excited. Oaklea is now the finest B&B in the county now folks, I say folks. Cor blinking stinking blimey, and I do mean Cor Ballyblinking (small village just a stones throw from Ballypolly), Cor blimey readers, and I do mean my regular readers, there is words on the streets, I say streets. He is "Peter the Horse" and has owned shares in steeds with Haslam (Patrick) and Johnston, has connections with Michael Owen, through his father with the Cheltenham Racing Club and spends more time buried in the " blackbook" than is good for his health. My only reservation is this. He is a very large imposing type of guy, and has been stitched up before. He seemed very lively (pissed) when I spoke to him earlier. DO AS YOU DO. A disclaimer.. They are expected to run well. If they do, and win, I expect lots and lots of BOOMS, cases of Stella, bags and bags of the finest weed and a photos of any naked women.

The horse I have a share in Lucca Lady also goes at Aintree tonight. We are hopeful but it looks a hot race. For a Scouser like me, though, just to have a runner at Aintree is a dream. Mick, when I go to Aintree I always get off the train at Orrell Park and walk down the Vale having a pint at Wetherspoons and the Black Bull on the way. That is the plan for this afternoon. Can't wait.
Ahhhh! great Nils, did he play Keith Don't Go? I have several albums of his, the first, the double live Night After Night, Wonderland and I think some more, maybe Cry Tough and Night Fades Away, I don't remember now ... And I don't forget that he played at the charity concert of the greatest music genius Arthur Lee in 2006. Well anyway, I wanted to say that I really like Pineapple Rush 5/2 in Aintree 17,35.
No Lippy was quite impressive last Thursday at the Roodee, so not only is it in my compo selection, I shall also be parting with coins to back it today. The Nortonizer has gone "darn sarf" for Johnston to run at HQ and in the opener I quite like the look of one he's on, Danzay. ( I'm also being allowed to travel south of Birmingham next week, more to come on this ... ) Another one at Newmarket that I like the look of is Balgair in the 2.45. Wouldn’t be the first time that the Sheikh Hamdan, the forum’s favourite Sheikh, Burrows combo pitched a very inexperienced one into a Classic but you would have to imagine he’d have to excel later on for this to happen in this case. Fantastically bred creature, and certainly up to a tilt on lineage, though being by Frankel and out of mare who was 4th in an Oaks and a Park Hill runner-up. Good luck, crew.
