My ex mother in law had Alzheimer’s. Not easy to deal with and the deterioration seems inexorable.

My Uncle has it too. There’s little point going to visit him anymore. He can’t really speak, has no idea of who anybody is, and just sits there staring ahead.

Yeah it's tragic. I help out as much as I can, but I've got a young daughter and a business to run, so I can't do as much as I'd like. It drives my Mum mad having to deal with it 24/7.

She can't even have a conversation with him any more as he just doesn't comprehend anything more than one or two word commands.

yeah i tihnk going to sleep and not waking up is the best way to go. Then again you don't get your proper goodbyes.

My grandad shrivelled away slowly when he had his terminal cancer the year before but he had a great innings.

My dad went around 6 years ago with cancer too but, we thought he was getting better and he suddenly went.

Sad going through terminal illness and maybe i'm just a bit heartless but at the same time there was a sense of relief for me in that the suffering stops and that you can carry on living your life

That's the strange thing . Me and my two sisters have sort of said goodbye to him . Every time I see him , I am convinced I won't see him alive again , been the same for about 2 months . My brother seems to be in denial .

You are NOT being heartless !

Never sure how to say things but hope the send off went well for you and you're coping with your loss

Not harsh at all mate. My grandad bought me up and he had Alzheimer's towards the end. He had gone from a man who people literally feared to not able to control his bowels.

I got to spend time with him at the end and am grateful for that but the tears on his death were not all sadness. There was relief and not sure joy is the right word but certainly a happiness that he was not suffering anymore

Purely from a selfish perspective I wish I didn't remember him as the guy he became rather than the man he was. But its how he was in his final years that comes as pictures in my mind not the guy who was very strong

Yeah, cheers Fan.

As I say, it was all a bit sudden. But she was no spring chicken so I guess anything can happen at thst age.

At least she was at home, had people with her, and she went peacefully.

Waiting for the series3 of Spartacus to start at 10pm. Best show i tv, (i say that every week)
