I think Redmond challenges the notion that players are either regulars, impact off the bench or full-time bench/squad players. His inconsistency is frustrating but some games he starts well and other games he plays well once he comes on. This season, he's been lacking in both departments.

I would say Redmond is one of the more consistent players in our squad. Playing unremarkable football with amazing consistency for a year now.

Disagree. He performed as well as a cb should be expected to but was a shadow of his former self.

He didn’t run forwards with the ball, his tackling was half hearted and he was partially to blame for the 2nd goal. He made a couple of blocks but wasn’t the same Virgil. He was also quiet and wasn’t martialling the defence like he used to.

We don’t know if this is post injury getting fit/back into the game or he just can’t be arsed. I hope it’s not the latter. He doesn’t need to put himself in the shop window to get suitors.
We beat West Brom 1-0! What second goal are you on about?

MP 2 has pretty much got the defence sorted. In fact we are spoilt for choice. That's a good place to start to improve other elements of the team. Much rather that than Klopps style of defending.

I think MP 2 is getting improvements out of the team and is taking more gambles going forward. This is the type of game we can squeeze a win.

Incidentally MP 1 record in his first nine games matches MP 2. 3 losses, 3 draws, 3 wins. Arguably against tougher opposition MP 1 had DLDWLLDWW. His 10th game was a 0-2 win away at Reading. Hopefully MP 2 10th game will be the same.

If MP 2 ends up being anywhere as good as MP 1 then we have some good times ahead.

Surely his performance against West Brom is of more relevance than the Newcastle one, when he still wasn’t fully match fit? On Saturday he seemed to spend more time coming forwards and playing as a midfielder than he did defending, and I don’t recall any defensive errors, certainly not of the magnitude of those in the Newcastle match. He looked back to his imperious best I thought.
Which were the points I was making in the match I said!

I can only base my opinions on matches I have seen him play. Didn’t see west brom so can’t comment on his performance.

I hope so. With hoedt there and yoshi in good form part of me doesn’t want him back after the way he’s behaved.
Which is exactly how I felt until I saw him in the WBA game, but that performance gave the lie to those of us who thought he couldn’t be arsed any more. I accept he still wants to leave and is playing for the market, but at least we’ll get the benefit of his skill until he goes.

I think Virgil is not so much playing for the market as he is playing for his team mates. I expect he is doing his best because he won't let his friends down....when he plays he is in the zone. Perhaps we are underestimating the effect of a long lay off followed by a change in manager. If the transfer saga has an effect on performance, I think it will be subliminal rather than deliberate. I doubt it is occupying his thoughts whilst he plays but may just be taking the fire from his belly.
