As (almost) usual a spot on assessment
No team in the Championship had a player score more than Wood last year and yet a quarter of the teams finished above us. I won't be distraught if he goes because he wants the money - as long as the money is reinvested in the team. Is he worth 5 times what Jansson is?? I think not.
Afternoon all - here's my take, for what it's worth. Wood is 26 this year, and may now be wondering whether to take the Premiership wages now or sit tight and maybe go up with us next year.
He's had the option to go before and stayed at Leeds, demonstrating loyalty and commitment rarely seen these days, a distinct lack of avarice, and he knows that he has the chance to become a true Leeds legend long term - I hope he does stay because he's a class act at this level.
I bet his agent's asking him what will happen to his perceived value if he doesn't have such a good season this time round though, and suggesting that his Premiership earnings opportunity window probably closes at 30. However you look at it from a fan's perspective, he'd be taking a serious hit financially and a huge risk over the next 12 months by staying at Leeds.
TC clearly wants to hold on to him, as he has a vested interest in short-term results on the pitch - I think the club may be slightly more ambivalent though, sensing an opportunity to make a good profit on him and bring someone else in to do the job at lower cost, feeling there are now goals elsewhere in the squad.
Possible scenarios - Chris has made his intention to go known and the club are responsibly lining Lasogga up to fill the gap, or they are willing to sell at the right price and are lining Lasogga up to fill the gap, or Chris is not going whether his choice or the club's, and they just like the look of Lasogga as backup.
