Afternoon all - here's my take, for what it's worth. Wood is 26 this year, and may now be wondering whether to take the Premiership wages now or sit tight and maybe go up with us next year.

He's had the option to go before and stayed at Leeds, demonstrating loyalty and commitment rarely seen these days, a distinct lack of avarice, and he knows that he has the chance to become a true Leeds legend long term - I hope he does stay because he's a class act at this level.

I bet his agent's asking him what will happen to his perceived value if he doesn't have such a good season this time round though, and suggesting that his Premiership earnings opportunity window probably closes at 30. However you look at it from a fan's perspective, he'd be taking a serious hit financially and a huge risk over the next 12 months by staying at Leeds.

TC clearly wants to hold on to him, as he has a vested interest in short-term results on the pitch - I think the club may be slightly more ambivalent though, sensing an opportunity to make a good profit on him and bring someone else in to do the job at lower cost, feeling there are now goals elsewhere in the squad.

Possible scenarios - Chris has made his intention to go known and the club are responsibly lining Lasogga up to fill the gap, or they are willing to sell at the right price and are lining Lasogga up to fill the gap, or Chris is not going whether his choice or the club's, and they just like the look of Lasogga as backup.

My feeling is the club should release a statement saying they are insulted by the derisory offers so far for Wood, that are not even worthy of consideration.

We need to drive the price well over the 20m and make it clear we will not consider anything less.

I’m hoping the club see his true value in our team and are putting together a new contract offer for him. Without breaking the bank, it can be heavily laden with incentives, goals scored, promotion etc and a guarantee of double your salary if promoted. Could also build in a release clause to allow him go in January if we’re not at the races. Previous owners would have neither had the cash or willingness to offer such a contract but Rad is far longer term in his contract offers as we’ve seen with nearly all the first team Players to date. Every chance wood would accept such an offer. I could be way off the mark but won’t be a bit surprised to see an announcement very soon that he has signed a new deal

That sounds like a good idea Eire.

What would be the sum to activate the release clause ?

I would put it at 25m and if someone is willing to offer that then so be it.

Suppose the sum would have to be agreeable between all parties. If too high then he wouldn’t have a chance of a move anyway. 25m sounds good for the club, maybe Wood would prefer 20m. Either way, we’d have him for the season if in contention so win win all round. Would make a very positive statement to other clubs too

To be honest I think there are clubs that will be willing to go to 20m now.

My thinking was to put them off a little or at least make them pay a bit more than they're comfortable with. It's the only way to get some of that lovely PL wonga whilst we're in the championship.

Means nothing, the Liverpool bloke just signed a 5 year contract. Once the player wants out it only a matter of time and how much the club can get.

According to Tommy Wood will not be sold this season. So if this story is true we are also bringing in the German from Hamburg to push Wood & also maybe play with 2 up top. Stoke WBA, Burnley & West Ham are all supposed to be chasing Wood. burnley will not off anywhere near £20m as they only got £15m for Grey, Pulis is a tight cnut, Hughes is an idiot but not that stupid so unless West Ham have got more cash after shelling out for 4 top players .....

I can't understand why the club are looking at taking a guy on loan that earns £60k a week. True, we won't be paying all of that, but I'll bet you that the amount we pay will be more than we pay Wood. And if it's a 'try before you buy', we might end up paying him £60k+ a week.

I'd personally offer Wood a very, very lucrative contract & I bet you he'd snap it up. Most of this discussion has been based on money, but if you were Wood, would you like to be a rich bench-warming nobody, or a moderately rich team regular in an exciting project & loved by his fans?

From what I've read about him, and the little I've gleaned from speaking to him, he won't be interested in the former. He's a realist that knows he's already fairly rich, but that doesn't seem to interest him. He seems to be interested in playing football, and that's it. Not so sure he even craves adulation from the fans! He's just a football-daft guy that's won a watch by getting regular football in a team that's become realistically ambitious in a very competitive league.

Bottom line - I think he'll give us another year. Don't know this management team well enough to make a call on them, though.

If the management team are going after the German its for a reason. That reason could be try before you buy its because of possible promotion & with promotion comes the £60k which is a rumor only. We need regular goals to get promoted and I feel we will get goals from midfield this year but cannot afford to fall short up front. I like Ekuban but would be chuffed having the German as well

hi guys well what a debate i have missed.been working and just had a read back.seems to me everyone has their price but what will Leeds do with Wood.
if we were to sell and get two good players with the money then yes it makes sense.but just who can we get ?.
was sat with my mate in north stand and he said he is not a wood fan.he is a season ticket holder and reckons last year given the way preston played we would have lost.

If Wood can repeat he will be the real deal and worth more than £20m but we have seen plenty of 1 hit woders in this league. The big front man Norwich had Grant Holt.our own McGreedy, southampton had a big guy Rickie Lambert, Rodrigues went to saints after 1 good season at Burnley, Mickail Smith, Gary Hooper, Jordan Rhodes and more all one hit wonders maybe Rhodes been the best but not now.

So for me we should be happy we have Woods but we need the next Woods

Would we have got out of league 1 if we didn't force Beckford to stay till the end of his contract ?

But it depends on the individual, some will get on with it if you turn the move down, some will be like Virgil Van Dyke (or Charlie Taylor). Once they're not giving their all you have to cut your losses. I don't know what sort of person Wood is.

Suppose the difference was Beckford said he was happy to stay til the end of the season. Van Dyke won't even train at St Marys
