At the moment the rumours break down something like this

Probable: Lopez, Sessegnon, Maguire
Possible: Lemar, Gibson*
Improbable: Barkley, Douglas Costa

When laid out like that, it really doesn't seem to plug the gaps in our team: we certainly need to address central midfield as we're both overly-reliant on a habitually injured Dembele while putting a lot of faith into Winks, while if we continue to play three at the back that means Dier starts a lot more games so can't be rotated with Wanyama anywhere near as often as we may need to.

We are traditionally late starters. Slow starts to the season, slow starts to matches, slow starts to transfer windows. If the Spurs cockerel was real, it wouldn't wake the farmer up until gone noon <laugh>

July is usually when the gears begin grinding into motion.

Some insight into the reality of the position of two of our highly coveted defenders from the players themselves:

Toby Alderweireld has stated that he hasn't refused a contract offer from Spurs, as he hasn't been in receipt of one. He says he expects to be at Spurs next season.

Kyle Walker says he has been given no indication by Spurs of his future being elsewhere other than Spurs.

Despite Walker's departure to Citeh being "all but completed" it turns out that no offer has actually been made for him. I don't discount that any player could leave the club but the idea that we'd usher out one of our main players to a rival without firstly, rinsing them rotten and secondly, putting them through hell first is laughable. Given that Citeh are said not to have fancied outbidding Liverpool for VVD and aren't rushing to meet a £40m price tag for a Monaco full back, suggests that meeting the 'Levy Price' for Walker would make even the nouveau riche's eyes water.

As far as Toby is concerned there's no point in offering him a contract he's not going to sign.If we offer him one now, it should fit within last season's structure of we risk unsettling all those who have signed already. As next season's Wembley gate receipts start to roll in, we should be able to upgrade on that and look to move the structure up to meet Toby's desired level.

I don't think Rose will be moved on. It's more realistic to think that sessegnon is potentially being brought in to be additional cover for rose and to learn from Poch. - Whilst Davies will be used as normal as a LB, and also as a cover centre back, where he's been used for wales, especially if Wimmer leaves.
 
The Mirror are reporting that in addition to affording everyone a damned good laugh at their stupidity, Liverpool's willingness to pay £60m for VVD means that is the price for Kyle Walker to Citeh.

As if we were going to sell him to the richest people in football for anything less?
 
Matthias Ginter's name is doing the rounds again, with some reports suggesting he is available for as little as £15m.

For that price it's a no-brainer. He is improving year on year and at 23 is already considered one of the best in Germany.

However, the fact that he is a right-sided CB would suggest that we may be viewing him as a long term replacement for Toby...

Good player, would definitely have him, especially with Wimmer's uncertainty at the moment. Though would Ginter leave Dortmund for us when we probably can't guarantee an immediate first team spot?
